Basically, you like nothing? Is it sour grapes? Wink

I think the News channel looks ar superior to World. As a domestic viewer we've had to put up with a fake newsroom for 4 years - whereas World News was in N8 and had a live newsroom view.

Far or as? I wouldn't say it looks far superior to World. Its only got a newsroom behind it WN is still a heck load more dynamic and in your face compared to NC lol.

Plus, I didn't say I didn't like it its just im used to WN that's all really.

I suppose in terms of programme variety (GMT, Impact, Global, WBR etc) they are.

I wish David Lowe had given the news channel a little motief theme, like World News has with its siren sounds. It would have separated it a little bit more from domestic news.

Is there a particular reason that World has its own music packages that are different to News 24? Considering the public can't ever view both channels in the same country (at least, not officially) what benefit is there of composing different music for World? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to use the same on both? Nobody except us presentation geeks would notice.

And the same question for all the BBC Regions. If I wasn't a presentation geek I would have no idea that BBC LDN and Scotland and North West Tonight don't all have the same theme tune. Why waste money like that?

Well it's not like it's a totally different piece. It's the same music but only with that recognizable World sound that appears a few times. The same way News Channel now has it's special headlines violin bed effect that sadly does not appear on World. Really wish it would cause for me it's one of the best changes that really makes the whole opening different. I also like how it's heard in the music after the opening, before the presenter appears.

I really dislike the extra violin because it makes it even more obvious when they've restarted the bed after each thunderclap.

That spiral staircase in the background looks hard work. Just watched a woman struggle her way up.

World wins when it comes to variety, but the attention and focus is with the News Channel. Studio E is far less flexible in terms of lighting, and repurposing. It does one thing, and does it ok.

Another thing I notice is tv cameras being in shot always used to be a no no in the old days but we have seen these new cameras in shot a fair bit. I'm assuming this is partly because these cameras are quite minimalist compared to the older studio cameras?

Lightweight cameras of a similar style have been in use in News studios since the early-90s (Thomson 1647s and 1657s, Philips LDK100s and Sony BVP-E30s at TVC, now Sony HSC300s) They all look pretty similar - maybe the backs are a bit smaller but they're all basically 'handhelds'.

It's a style thing increasingly - and with the studio designs you only really get big wide shots if you embrace cameras in-shot (as they can't pull back out of shot when they're on circular track)

We've got Sportsday (BBC News) and Sport Today (BBC World News) on at the same time from the same studio in Salford. Looking at the screens in the background on Sportsday, it looks like Sport Today is pre-recorded.

Mind you, there's not normally much live sport at this time of the night anywhere in the world so they can get away with not having the latest score on BBC World News...

I actually really like how it does that! I've started listening out for it.

It just occurred to me that the regular lunchtime signed news didn't happen yesterday - presumably they were trying to minimise complications with the move (and treat us to their send-off in full screen). Did it return today, or is it gone for good?

Funnily enough that occurred to me this lunchtime when I forgot to turn over to 1. Yes it was back today, I suspect it was just they didn't want it on the first broadcast.

Wonder where the live signing is done? I assume it's done somewhere in news rather than being sent to Red Bee and back?

You are assuming that the people who work on the various programmes and channels know there's a difference? Wink I know I can't tell. I remember somewhere where I worked they sent out a load of new music and no-one could actually work out what it was they'd changed.

As for cost, I'd have thought that it's just different cuts of the same set of recordings. One programme chose track 4 on the CD, the other track 5!
