The background screen in Studio C just looks awful. It's so washed out - they'd have had a nicer result if they'd carted the old Barcos over from TV Centre.

I've got HD News at One coming in a short while. Will get Six and Ten up as soon as I can. Will be great to see Studio C in HD when News Channel gets on BBC One HD from 1 until 6.

Various thoughts:

Little notices on these desks saying "Access only please. You are on camera".

If you have a look at the overhead shots, there are some red lines taped on the carpet marking off a kind of 'exclusion' zone around the studio.

What's the point in being in a working environment then stopping people from doing their job. With fake backdrops they have people walking past all the time - usually on a loop!

Are all those globe-shaped red lamps purely decorational, or do they double up as subtle on air lights?

The "On Air" signs are less subtle than that (although they do look nice), as evidenced by scottishtv's screenshot (look just under the "LIVE" graphic, and another on the far right):

I'm very impressed. It just lookers sharper, brighter and amazing how much of a difference a genuine newsroom view is - not a recreation or projection. The shots look good (I particularly like the side on one with the screen now at a much better size than the giant Barcos) although looking at one of the behind the scenes reports, just how noisy are the cameras! The titles still feel a little strange but I think that's just because I'm used to the old version, the flow of the intro works well.

The "ON AIR" signs on the wall, are they just for effect?!

And the ending at TVC was just sublime, felt very final. The lights out leaving just the glow of the autocue was a nice touch.

My summing up...

'A more dynamic viewing experience'.

Is it me or do the presenters actually seem to be enjoying the new presentation? It seems to be coming across in their delivery. They all seem much more 'alive' being able to do move around the studio and do stand up presentation. Anita seems much more chirpy than normal, especially standing by the wall to explain things.

I think being in a newsroom helps, they don't feel so isolated.

It looks good - and I know it's only day one - but the story count seems a little on the low side - presumably part of the DQF refocusing of the channel on "the main stories of the day and on breaking news" - but the news agenda feels a little thin, with relatively few stories on high rotation - albeit with a wider range of story treatments.

It's interesting that during Nick's tour of the newsroom he said that it brings all the various teams together for the first time, TV, Radio, World Service etc. However it doesn't house the team behind the BBC's News Radio station as 5 Live comes from Salford. So that statement isn't strictly true.

I do think it looks very impressive, I like the new look, and it was long overdue.

You're joking. I think everyone is glad the crazy paving of a backdrop has finally gone.

I THINK when he says 'World Service' he actually means 'World News'.

I think it's rather to make people aware that whatever they're doing in that area can be seen on-air. It's similar at Sky News.

Just for a laugh look back on the first few pages of the old BBC News presentation thread.
