It's also good to not have the BBC News logo appearing at the end of the countdown so you'd essentially have two formups in the space of a minute. That's something that has crept in during the last few years and it never worked IMHO. Also good that there isn't that cheesy gallery shot a la World.

Do like the break bumper after the weather into promos - just like the early days of News 24 before they dropped it to speed things along!

Ticker left on during the weather on the Six. Looks fine.

Just looked again at that overhead shot at the end of TVC's last hour - unless my eyes are deceiving me it's a pretty old shot as Wood Lane station sand Westfield aren't built, making it pre-2008.

Just looked back at it, and yeah - good spot!

They're coming from their second studio.

And that piece of gaffer tape on that plasma. Hiding the Panasonic logo clearly!

It seems they are aggressively promoting "The Papers", airing it almost every top & bottom of the hour.

Yeah, Olly Foster in their normal studio for Inside Six Nations.

And was it me or is the Six now longer in running time? Before it always ran for 27/28 minutes, tonight however it seemed to finish at exactly 18:30.

I tweeted Sam Taylor yesterday, he said there were several promos advertising various shows and 'one' would be ready for today. Obviously the Papers one.

They have been using different shots in Salford today. Most notable is at the end of the Sports bulletin before they hand back, they use a wide shot of the studio with the sport website on the plasma.

OK, I'm not going to be wetting myself about it like some people here but it is great to see BBC News back in a newsroom environment and on the whole it is a decent enough clean up. Can't help but think it's a real missed opportunity though not to completely refresh it - the red everywhere does the space (both studio and newsroom) no favours at all and I think it could look much more impressive with a change in colour scheme. Also as they've made a mess of hacking the titles in half they might as well have gone the whole hog and changed them - or dropped them and just had the newsroom/studio shots.

Graphics are as you expect from the BBC - most do the job but the ticker is hideous IMO. I know they didn't get away with it a few years ago but surely now they could use the full width of the ticket and move the BBC News logo out of the 4:3 safe zone.

The basics are fine - I like the small screens behind each desk and like ITV they show smaller screens can do the job just as well and IMO they work better for "over the shoulder" shots rather than a tiny newsreader in front of a massive screen. The three screens on the walkway look awful though - the sort of thing you'd expect from a regional newsroom trying to create a cheap video wall rather than the national studio.

So on the whole a slight improvement on what there was before, but can't help but feel short changed by it all.
