In the first 2 minutes of News at 1 while Sophie welcomed the viewers and introduced the first story, the whole newsroom stood still watching, you could clearly see and it feel it.
This is why having a live newsroom background is so great, it gives you the atmosphere, the feel of tv news happening as you watch.
Love the new countdown. Just wish they would find a way of dealing with the often awkward transition between that and the headlines. You know, rather than the "Mind the gap" effort it often is right now.
Because the countdown screams authority, you just want a finisher that screams: "We are the BBC, everyone else should just forget it."
The channel is alive. I don't think the channel has had this sort of atmosphere since 2003. They've embraced the 2003 revamp and the 2008 one and combined the best bits of both of them. I know I keep saying this but it works.
It is exactly how Sam Taylor described it on Newswatch... authority mixed in with a modern touch.
Standing up makes for a more visual experience - it
doesn't
make the channel look less formal.
It makes the last 4 years look very poor indeed in N6! It's still been worth the wait.
