I assume it's simply because all (?) news segments on BBC News Channel are simply called BBC News, whereas on BBC World News lots of segments have separate programme names like Impact or News Day... The programme name 'dog' is used a lot of BBC World News and never used on the channel because it would only pop up during simulcasts.
And it would also look silly for the white programme name dog to say BBC News directly above the red strap saying ... BBC News.
But for one hour of overnight it's Newsday on BBC News isn't it, that's when we should also be seeing the programme strap afterwards it's as per normal ie no programme strap.

No. I would assume that BBC Newsday is on the half hour because I usually see the 1am Bulletin from time to time. After that it usually reverts back to the single presenter from BH for a few minutes than a recording of the ABC World News would come on screen.
Referring to other matters. Did anyone hear any interference on the 1pm Bulletin with Maxine Mawhinney which was broadcast last Saturday?
I heard a microphone testing which was mistakenly broadcast by a female newsreader from BBC1 South East when showing a report on the India Cyclone on the NC. Did anyone else hear that at all?

The news channel have never used the programme name strap on any of thei separate programmes - just because World News does doesn't mean it's policy to have a programme name strap like harshy is suggesting. The NC tend to put something onto the straps themselves (e.g extracts from the graphics of Newswatch, the Papers, Dateline etc.), which WN don't do, so I suppose you could suggest that is the NC's equivalent.
But that's not specifically a programme name strap - it just replaces the words 'News in Brief' and doesn't identify the programme the same way that World News try to use it, but instead differentiates from a normal 'News in Brief' section.
I remember when WN were in BH and the NC were at TVC the strap made an appearance on Newsday on the NC, as they only overwrote the part of the lower thirds that contained BBC World News and the ticker, the rest was from BBC World News but now I'm assuming it's no longer there because of the control each channel has in BH.

Pretty sure Newsday didn't have a strap back in TVC.
