Sorry to weigh in late on the debate over Thursday's coverage, if I'm not mistaken it has been mentioned before that Studio's A and E are on completely different floors so whoever does the BBC News at Nine on the NC has to then move across NBH to E to pick it up again at 10:30 after the News at 10, so it would seem impossible to keep them in A or another studio to cover any breaking news in reality, unless you switched to the presenter on location (as there was on in this case) to deliver the breaking news.
Also C isn't being used as at 10pm UKT WN is showing World News America from Washington so you would have a studio available
and I assume the Newsday presenter for the evening could be used
if there a gallery to feed it to if necessary.
This was the case during the Boston Bombings when Babita Sharma started earlier in C, and was joined by Clive Myrie, albeit for a WN/NC simulcast but in theory the same logic could be used if a similar situation arose.
Just to pick up on that, Studio C isn't used for World News America (normally) but the gallery for Studio C is, All output for World News America is controlled from London. Think of it like a permanent outside broadcast.
I did point out just after about Studio C whether there was a gallery available that could take the feed.
It just happened again. On BBC One this time. It's been a really bad week for the BBC Stationery and Office Supplies department. Hopefully we won't be seeing any more mistakes like this.
Not sure if it was deliberate but a couple of longish idents into the weather and the handover on BBC One which would have worked well into the start of the next half hour, had the news titles not run out after 20secs. Although good luck to the director if he was going to try syncing the two audio beds as well.
Rather an unusual opening into the BBC News at One a little earlier. After the titles ran, the camera on the balcony that would usually do the pan / zoom movement was in a locked off shot in line with the main bank of desks that you see in the newsroom. Then when camera 1 in studio E was cued, that would usually do the pan around the side of the studio before the presenters camera is cued, that camera was half behind the plasma screen and you saw the back of Kate's head and the reflection of the newsroom on the reverse of that plasma.
After Kate had been cued you could see camera 1 was still in the wrong position half behind the plasma and was then slowly moved to hide it behind the plasma. Nice bit of positioning though so that the ped was in line with the pillar that you could see above the top of the plasma.
The 2pm TOTH sequence was back to normal with the balcony camera doing the pan / zoom as well as camera 1 in studio E.
I have included the countdown in this video because it sounds to me as if the music has changed slightly. It feels like there is more life in it and more strings/sounds have been added (Sorry I am not explaining that very well).
Did that camera 'Cross the newsroom' as normal for the weather?
Sure it's a cock up in the system, they really need to get that software looked at.
As for that countdown there's definitely an extra 'crash' added at 69 seconds, I noticed it back when we had that long World countdown leading into the Ten

I wasn't paying an awful lot of attention to the weather just before 1pm today, I only really started paying attention when my ears noticed the countdown was sounding different and that was when I actually started looking properly at the screen (and picked up on the two camera issues). I think (but cannot swear on it) that they may have just handed to the weather plasma before 1pm, as opposed to the usual "let's cross the newsroom for the weather with x" and trundle across the balcony. Everything was back to normal from 14:00 though.
Thanks for providing the comparison with the launch day countdown to the one I posted today. The one they used today just before the BBC News at One today certainly does feel much more alive and energetic than the original.
