Are there any websites where you can see the audience viewing figures/ratings for different times of the day on NC?

There is BARB which can tell you some weekly and monthly ratings information and there is also a ratings thread on the digitalspy forums which sometimes report and discuss BBC News Channel ratings. However it is quite rare for them to discuss the BBC News channel unless there is a big news story. They do however receive hourly ratings info for BBC One and ITV.

Meandering cameras on Dateline London...........

I noticed this too. It's the first time I've seen Dateline in quite a while and I have to say that I was distracted by the cameras. Apart from the odd movements, the transitions between different shots seemed much more natural when at TVC. Some of the shots today seemed very poorly timed (e.g. several seconds after a person began speaking) and poorly framed. It was such to the extent that I became more focused on the camera shots than the content of the programme.

Indeed, Rob.

However, on this occasion, the fireworks between Abdel Beri Atwan and Janet Dailly made up for the cameradance. Golly, they had a real good slanging match.

I guess the edition I see on World a few hours later is the same edition screened on NC LIVE earlier in the day? non edited?

Back in the mists of time when Dateline was 50 minutes long, I occasionally had the job of recording the studio output, plus an iso-cam* feed, so that an editor could do a quick turnaround and create the shorter edition for World. I suspect these days it's just a straightforward repeat, but I've never sat down to watch both to check Smile

* isolated camera - an gallery output that would often be a locked-off wide shot, useful for a cover shot to stick on top of an otherwise messy edit.

Indeed, it is a straight rerun. And rightly so. Little time and effort required to replay it, on whatever channel.

The Bottom Line used clever workflow, edit decision lists, and good technology to record, edit, and export tv, radio, long, short, etc versions, essentially all from one edit window. Very clever stuff.

Remember the days of Gate 24? That was Fastrack, but with bespoke links and titles for the UK. All that reversioning has gone away these days, and again, rightly so.

We had an over 80 second countdown on the BBC News Channel into the BBC News at One. Not seen them use a long countdown into the other BBC1 bulletins before.

They did on BH launch day and the first week the countdown to the 10 sounded like a World News Countdown, we had a 70 second variant of that.

As posted in the Sport Thread, Football Focus is moving to 12pm, so the Saturday lunchtime BBC1 news will have to move. If it is to 12.45pm, then that may impact on Dateline London which currently airs live from Studio E 12.30-1pm

Why couldn't Dateline be moved to a later timeslot - say 13:30 - if that were the case? It's only shown live on the News Channel IIRC.

Dateline London could either move to a later slot, or perhaps could continue to air at 12.30 from studio E with the network bulletin coming from another studio - perhaps sharing a studio and production team with BBC London. Whether that would lead to a change in presenter is another issue as Maxine I believe covers for Gavin on Dateline London.
