So 19 days to change a set. What happened to them being magically done overnight - or at least over a weekend.

There might be a lot of lighting or other technical changes to do, as well as removing the window through the newsroom and so on. Look North Yorkshire took 3 weeks to do their set because IIRC they had all the lighting replaced.

AFAIK are they actually removing the window? From what I hear, I'm under the impression that the new set is just going to be facing the other way.

The presenters said on-air that 'you won't be seeing this view anymore' which makes it sound like the window is going.

Well, if you were facing the other way, you wouldn't see the window anyway, irrespective whether it was there or not!

Very true. Surely they're better to keep the windows. It's a great feature for any change to the set in the future, and could also be used in the immediate for long shots of the studio with a camera in the newsroom on occasion.

Are we expecting the real news room view to be replaced with the standard fake newsroom view then?

Of course it could be that they have to remove the window to get stuff in and out of the studio

I'm not sure the word 'future' & 'Mailbox' will go hand in hand for much longer. Laughing

Surely that's just network production lol, though somebody suggested the BBC were interested in office space at Fort Dunlop once...

Don't forget the 4th and 5th are bank holidays. I could be the case that it is technically ready by the 3rd, but they'll wait until a full Midlands Today bulletin to launch it, allowing for a couple of extra days just in case something goes wrong.

Factoring rehearsal times, they had 2 new shots to play with last time round hence it took 2 (13 days) weeks, now it's a completely new set - new angle and new cameras too I think, so a lot more stuff to practice!

Well they wouldn't be the first media group to go there!

Trinity Mirror(Locally owners of the Brum Mail & Sunday Mercury) are already there.

Wasn't there a rumour of Central going there at one point?

Not expecting much but I'd not be surprised if something like this appeared!

Am I right in thinking that the area they are based has an L shaped glass wall (window) Could they just be shifting the view behind? Or maybe the "moving to the other side" comment was a reference to the temporary studio?

It's a 3 walled, 1 window studio, not an L shape, more a 'U' if anything with the top end being a window with a glass door in it. Nick Owen said "We're no longer going to look out of this window, we're moving over there!" and pointed to the other end of the studio, where the cameras are (it used to be a presentation area until it was removed in 2009).

EDIT: This cap from 2005 (tvmercia) shows how 'versatile' a studio it can be, with inventive and creative shots being employed;
