The screens in the Midlands Today studio are low energy, smart panels from Sharp, 60" screensize with a 6mm bezel - they cost £7,500 each retail.
The set was designed by BDA Jago Design, the large screen isn't a plasma as first thought but a new projector unit and screen.
Methinks this is going to last another 10 years!

We've had this chap on doing the West Midlands weather tonight.

I'm assuming it was piped up the line from Southampton, as it did wipes on screen that weren't familiar to me(certainly when Birmingham used their CSO position!).
I'm sure Mike W will confirm yes or no.

Well Mike Powell also did the forecast on South Today last night, so your theory seems likely.

I had always assumed that the Beeb would indeed add a BBC West option to Ridge Hill on or soon after switchover in 2011. I'm bemused that such a move has, to my knowledge, never even been remotely suggested or considered by the Beeb.
Poor old north Gloucestershire viewers being lumped-in with news from the likes of Brum and the Potteries has arguably *always* been a poor situation. Given that it is perfectly physically and technologically possible to remedy this, and given that ITV indeed already have remedied this, it seems to be a very poor show on the part of the Beeb.
I presume that north Gloucestershire postcodes are mapped to Points West on satellite and cable, so it's only Freeview viewers that are stuck with MT?
Ridge Hill, but only for ITV. There's an extra PSB 2 mux, that only carries ITV 1 West. The rest of the mux is empty. The Beeb have missed a huge opportunity by not coming aboard on that mux, and adding BBC 1 West.

Well half of Burton on Trent is BBC East Midlands according to Sky - despite the Winshill transmitter for the West Mids regions being in the areas of Burton which Sky thinks is East Mids - they get their news, travel and weather from Midlands Today despite being 200m or so from the Derbyshire border!

It's not Sky that define the postcode mapping, it's down to the BBC and ITV to tell Sky what postcodes to map where. All Sky do is apply the data they're given. Same applies to Freesat. Not sure about VM.
As they say, Garbage In: Garbage Out

Midlands Today just went away to a package about V-Festival and returned to Michael Collie and Jackie Kabler completely washed out with yellow light and lots of house lights reflecting on the desk! Not expected, Shef did her weather tease and you saw the lighting reset itself to normal - was quite jarring!
