Yes, if any BBC News programme was to introduce a cooking segment, and we hope that never will never happen, the kitchen are would probably have a kettle not too dissimilar to that.
Due to the fact that the studio is essentially a rectangular space with a newsroom backdrop, it should be very easy to fit a set that matches all the other regions into the space - which are all a rectangular space with a newsroom (albeit fake) backdrop. Whether it'll be a mini version of N6 like most regions, or it'll reflect the new designs at Broadcasting House is the main question.
Plus 8 years from the existing set with just a few tweaks to it is pretty good going.
Nick just said they won't be looking through the window anymore and pointed to the oppersite side of the studio and said they'd be moving over there.
Wednesday 6th June is the date.
There's a door that side :S
Some stats - the current set shell was installed in February/March 2004 (not used on air until October of that year) and was refitted twice since, once kept the desk from Pebble Mill and added some LEDs and fluorescents and cleaned the laminate in 2007, the second time they made the current set on a shoe string.
I think this relaunch should coincide with a refit of the gallery which itself is knocking on to 9 years old...
From the March 2004 fit-out (ready for rehearsals) - give you a sense of how much space is lost to those curved walls and bad space design, a fair amount of it. I can see them using the right hand wall and rotating everything (when looking from the newsroom) and going down a BH route (With a bit of luck one of the new type desks) - I wonder if we could see a return of the 'soft' and 'serious' areas...
Edit: BBC Midlands Today saying "It's a 10 O'Clock News look" - does this mean a format relaunch too?

They will have to be careful with the angles when they throw to a reporter in the newsroom.
Could end up seeing the main studio in the background of the contributor.
