The desk appears to be slightly on the small side for dual presentation, which makes me wonder if MT will become a Nick Owen only bulletin later in the year?
I think they've always had small desks at the Shoebox, anything bigger really ruins the illusion the sets create of it somehow being larger than it is...

Recent talk here on TVF (possible insider knowledge?) has stated/suggested that MT will go single-headed in the autumn, presumably as part of DQF. This probably explains why Suzanne Virdee was only offered a very short contract, so that it would only take her up to the autum changes.
EDIT: Will all regions that are currently double-headed at 6:30pm being going single-headed in the autumn then? If the cited reason is "DQF-ing" (i.e. cost-cutting), then it would seem inconsistent for such a change to only be applied to some regions, and not others, IMHO...
It does make dressing the set for Sunday Politics and Late Kick Off easier though.
I'd have thought that Sunday Politics will continue to come from the canal-side "studio"?
That, and that it's perfectly possible that LKO might not necessarily be renewed for another season AIUI, means that the new MT set might *never* need to be "re-dressed" for anything else at all!
Surely the reason The Sunday Politics never came from the MT set is because there wasn't an easy way to adapt it so it fitted in with the national programme and still looked good. The new set means they can match national programme better than ever.

When Suzanne Virdee left, I don't understand why they didn't bring in single-headed presentation early and save having all these relief presenters.

Because nothing's set in stone - they don't know what's certain at the moment. It must be said as good as he is, I find Nick Owen tends to be a bit lost and out of his zone without a co-presenter next to him, so I'd like to see how he does single headed
Not really familiar with it, but from the caps, it looks beyond cheap, too much empty space and low budget.
I think it looks like a hybrid between the Daily Politics Show, the generic regional sets and the new bh news set renders

Now that I have seen all of the backgrounds, night etc... I have to say it is a really lovely set for Midlands Today. And for some of the people saying that lightboxes would have been better, it depends how they are used. I know I would prefer to see this shot:

I think people seem to be mistaking style over substance, Midlands Today have never presented their programme on a wideshot, it's always been tight on the presenters from around 1988 in programme history, so how big the screens are matters not in normal use...
Have they corrected their closing music yet? It's awful to have such a mish mash of music! Hate the new titles - the images just arent strong enough - shame they didnt go down the NWT titles route. The final shot isn't the most attractive shot of the rotunda either. Why not finish on the Selfridges building or something much stronger?
I do quite like the studio - it's not the standard Micro N6' seen in ll the other regions, but something closer to Salford and the renders. They've already put a new covering over those cables, and the desk is very nice, too.
I'm not sure those smaller screens look very nice, though. They're very vibrant and colourful in the close up shots, but on the wides, The lightstrip below them doesn't look that great, in my opinion. However, it's better than lightboxes.
All in all, a very good effort! Interesting to see what they do for LKO and SP.
