At the end of this lunchtime's bulletin, Mary said this evening's programme but would be the last show from the current set. Looks like they're getting a new one. Thank God I say - I've always found it cramped and badly designed.

It'll most likely be the generic regional news set...

I'm quite surprised by this news.

My understanding of why their current set is the "compromise" that it is (i.e. the stylings of the current generic set style, but the same layout as the previous MT set), is precisely because the size and/or shape of their apology-for-a-studio is so constraining, that the current layout is pretty much the only layout that is/was physically possible?

Apparently not so, it now seems...

Presumably they'll de-camp to to the newsroom "studio" area once again, whilst the set change takes place. (Which always looks awful during hours of darkness, as you can see the reflection of the cameras, and of the scrolling autocue text, in the windows)

They also backtimed the show badly and crashed into the network! Laughing

Probably, but I think it's due the change. It would be nice to have a North West Tonight element with the light boxes, and some kind of view of the Birmingham on the screens. Just to give it a different feel.

It will be great for Late Kick Off, if it still exists.

Perhaps it time for a new thread, this could be it.

I always wanted Midlands Today to go in the other canal side studio if it was a bit bigger. I love it when they go in there temporarily. I'm interested to see what they change the set to because they current one wasn't changed that long ago and it's very in keeping with the current BBC News look.

Well I'm sure they're going to try to fit one of those regional sets seen elsewhere, into the studio space as best they can.

I wonder how much space will be left vacant by the factual programming moving to Bristol?

No it isn't. It looks nothing like the current BBC studio designs. It's like saying the East's version of Late Kick off looks like its filmed in TC7.

What it does do is use the colours and styles that are on brand with BBC News.

At least they have some lights in the East, and enough seats for all their guests...

Although you're right on the looking like TC7 account, in both cases.

Really? That's honestly like saying that this kettle is in keeping with the BBC News brand:

It is, to be fair.
