On travel, I remember reading in the Breakfast TV newsletter that when Dermot went to Washington to cover the US Presidential election, he only travelled business class because the crew recognised him and gave him an upgrade. His producer was probably not impressed!

Why do these things happen? Celebrities are the last people in need of freebies, yet you often hear of famous people given preferential treatment when they walk into a store when they can certainly afford to pay their way.

Also, at the risk of sounding stupid, does this job cover Israel/Palestine? Its just I didnt think Bowen would want to go back I thought he was sick of war reporting and the like.

Yes his remit covers all of the Middle East - which will include Israel and Palestine. Also being granted editor status means that he is able to choose his own assignments - therefore he can decide how much or how little war reporting he does from now on.

If he begins to cover the Isarel area, what will happen with Orla Guerin. I think she is a brilliant journalist, and it would be a shame to see less of her.

Probably by locating Jeremy in London the BBC bosses hope that Orla Guerin won't feel as though her territory is being encroached upon, but also I would assume that Jeremy's role will be more analytical. For instance, if there was a bombing in Jerusalem, I imagine that Guerin would have the facts "on location" and Bowen would then have a report explaining the consequences and significance of such an incident.

Also, I think Orla Guerin has made Jerusalem her home, and it's not the logical place for a Middle East Editor to be based if they are covering the entire region - logistically at least.
