Wonder why they don't base him here in Dubai, or in some other point in the Middle East.
Anyway, good choice! I wonder who will take his place in Rome, Adam?

Nice to hear Jeremy's got the post. I look forward to seeing him alot more on our screens. He's an excellent broadcaster and journalist plus what's going on with John Simpson? I have to say I rarely see him these days, and last night "report" from Paris looked like the best bits of a Simpson's World shoot.
Anyway all well that ends well...Or so they say....

Possibly Tristana Moore (currently Berlin Correspondent), as the BBC are scaling down their operations in Germany so that there is no specific television correspondent there.

Is there not enough news to coming out of Germany to justify keeping a permanent TV correspondent there?

Well there's the political "crisis" rumbling on. Shroeder is holding a vot of no confidence in the parliament next week and the leading Conservative opposition is widly tipped to win any election.
Then of course there's the EU question. Germany's economy has done a nose dive and with the rejection by France and Denmark of the treaty theres alot of soul searching going on.
Have to admit I quite like Ms Morre. It's the accent that does it for me...

Certainly on radio, the Editors are used extensively to provide more analysis and contect. So today, for example, the Radio Four Six O'Clock News will have a piece on the EU summit from Tim Franks, covering the events of the day, followed by a piece from Mark Mardell piece explaining what it all means.
As far as deployments are concerned, there's a planning team who decide who's covering what, if the events are known in advance. For breaking news, there's a home news organiser, and a Foreign Desk Editor, who arrange for correspondents to be sent, and pieces to be filed.
On travel, I remember reading in the Breakfast TV newsletter that when Dermot went to Washington to cover the US Presidential election, he only travelled business class because the crew recognised him and gave him an upgrade. His producer was probably not impressed!

Why do these things happen? Celebrities are the last people in need of freebies, yet you often hear of famous people given preferential treatment when they walk into a store when they can certainly afford to pay their way.
Also, at the risk of sounding stupid, does this job cover Israel/Palestine? Its just I didnt think Bowen would want to go back I thought he was sick of war reporting and the like.

Yes his remit covers all of the Middle East - which will include Israel and Palestine. Also being granted editor status means that he is able to choose his own assignments - therefore he can decide how much or how little war reporting he does from now on.
