Does the Politics Show not use the MHS gallery though?
I don't know whether it does or not, but presumably TC7 could be used. Also is London the only region to present the Politics Show away from their studio complex?
Apparently space is tight in the new studio/office area and the new set will be restricted. Not sure if that means it will be any bigger or smaller than the current set- seeing as it is already fairly small!
BBC South almost always do their Politics Show as an OB, though it goes through the main production gallery in Southampton to get to air and to have VT inserts and astons added. Occasionally it comes from a redressed set in Studio-A.
BBC London's Politics Show is quite unusual in that it doesn't have to go through MHS to get to air. MHS only opt (in the traditional manner) for certain programmes and Politics isn't one of them AIUI. The London regional segment is what's known as the sustaining feed, in other words it's cut to by the National production team just after they call the opt and is there as a fall-back should anyone else have major problems. In the past MHS might have had a role in providing VT playins and astons for the regional element, but I would have thought special arrangements could be made this weekend if the old facilities aren't available.
Generally speaking, regional studio centre moves, major technical upgrades and set refreshes are almost all done in a weekend now. BBC Birmingham moved over a weekend with the last West Midlands opt from Pebble Mill being a 2225 on Friday and the first from the Mailbox being lunchtime on Monday (ISTR). In the meantime, joint Midlands opts originated from Nottingham. Some editions of Look East and South Today have come from Cambridge and Oxford over recent years while technical works were being carried out in the parent regions. All centres have contingency plans for alternative broadcasting arrangements and works like this are usually reasonable excuses for trying them out in a controlled (rather than hurried!) way. MHS moving to BH is slightly different of course, but I'm sure studio space elsewhere can be found for the Saturday and Sunday opts. N9 perhaps? Possibly even Millbank. There's a thought for the London Politics Show opt actually... Millbank's main gallery could easily provide production facilities for County Hall's OB and has a news set for bulletins - hmm - I wonder... Doubt it would be N10... though you never know.

No, it's always come from an OB, (except I think for a couple of times due to OB problems). Remember also that it's one of 2 Politics Show inserts that aren't BBC productions, the other being the East Midlands. Therefore BBC London have had little input into PS for about 5 years, let alone it using their facilities
AFAIK BBC London rarely opt-out for anything any more. The idents into the news, Inside Out and The Politics Show are all networked. Maybe their trails are, but recently they've looked too clean to be opt outs

I'm still sceptical that will need to relocate for the weekend at all. The new studio will have to be up and running by now for piloting, therefore what wouldn't be there that will prevent them from doing a programme on the Sunday? Doing a couple of bulletins from a third studio just adds to the complication.
As I say that was how it was done last time and that was more complicated - BH and MHS are a 10 minute walk away

It can't be much smaller, although not being constrained by a big hole in the floor will make the space seem bigger

MHS certainly opt for the 1300, 1315 and 2200 headlines/promos sequences because the news channel transmit a Sport headlines sequence during those regional slots. The other opts, as you say, are all networked as the sustaining feed.

Possibly, I always assumed that BBC London was the sustaining feed and the sport was put out on on News 24 seperately. I've never seen what happens when the headline opt fails though so it's difficult to tell

Since the News Channel moved into N6 the News Channel has been the sustaining feed for One O'Clock and Ten O'Clock News with BBC London being the sustaining feed for the Six O'Clock News.
