Before the current arrangement on Breakfast, the weather presenter would plug in directly to the desk as they had no-one on sound until Lunchtime. I thought they'd at least do that with Wendy tonight, so we heard something at least.
I guess somebody's regretting not building a back up mic into the desk!
Although according to the tweet above it wouldn't have made much difference as they didn't know about the problem.

What are the options if the sound desk crashes during a programme using the Bulletin Control Room rather than the main gallery?
I still find the concept of a sound desk 'crashing' odd.... I'm old school.
I suspect you're talking up their facilities, it's highly unlikely they'd have 2 galleries. I know in their old studio the short bulletins were done with extra automation and alternative faders within reach of the director.
Do the BBC cutbacks now extend to wardrobe sharing? I'm sure this morning on the Breakfast opts Jules Lang was wearing the same top as Lou Pepper yesterday!
No Lou this morning but instead of bringing in Jules or whoever they went back to the old format of the newsreader (Assad in this case) reading the travel, followed by a recorded weather forecast from Kaye Forster. Much better and only goes to prove there was never any need to change the weather/travel in the first place.
I've noticed that Asad Ahmad supports himself during the bulletins using a walking stick whilst standing (noticeable on the 6.30 and 10.30 where the headlines and intro to the programme are usually done standing).
I think IIRC he had a motorcycle accident a year or two ago, presumably this is the reason why he is using it.

That's right - he was knocked off his moped in 2008, as mentioned here.
One of the few places I've read about it was in an interview with him in a copy of a Mensa magazine. I suspect he doesn't talk about it often because it's not particularly relavent to his career.

I guess it is not massively relevant to his career, but its not something often seen.
I like Asad and glad he is back covering the 6.30.
