Apparently Wendy has lost her voice, hence she was in the building but not on-air.

Lets face it - most of the information is compiled from public sources, so its not as if you need an on-air specialist.

Of course, travel and weather reporters aren't going out and looking at the sky or roads, but there still has to be someone employed to compile it.

All the information is available but it's not ready for broadcast and there's ore than you can fit into 2 minutes someone needs to write the bulletin. I once did a bit of training to do travel news, it's more difficult than you think and you do need knowledge of the area to be any good

The newsreader on BBC London used to quite easily read the travel script while the weather presenter would be able to stand up to present a reasonable forecast.

Quite frankly, the current set-up is crap and Daybreak despite being a tight bulletin has a better travel and weather service than the BBC.

I think it's a disgrace that all BBC regions now employ a weather forecaster just for a 30 second update in a regional bulletin. What's the point? People just want to know whether it's going to rain or be sunny, and the duty newsreader is quite capable of doing that over a graphic. If you're not going to do that, what was wrong with a national forecaster recording 10, 30 second adlib weathers for each region? It worked perfectly before.

What makes you think they do just one 30 second TV bulletin?

Here in the North West they are very versatile. Heather and Diane present local radio programmes and often do the weather for regional radio stations. They also sometimes do some reporting and Diane more recently has done some presenting.

This morning Wendy was back to health but the travel cameras and weather graphics weren't working!

Agree with the other comment replying to this post,as well as doing the forecasts on the radio,Wendy has co-presented the breakfast show in the past as well as reporting on other stories for the tv bulletins, and Inside Out.

Katharine Carpenter returned from maternity leave today presenting the Breakfast/Lunchtime/3pm bulletins.

With Katharine returning and Mike Ramsden who recently left, I wonder if we'll see a shake up on who covers for Riz as Victoria Hollins seemed to get most of them recently?

Nice to see Katherine back but why is it that neither she or Alice have never fronted the main bulletin? Don't the producers think they're good enough?

So presumably the 10th anniversary of BBC London News on Saturday passed without mention?

It's not really 10 years though, it's just that ten years ago the BBC London and South East region was reduced in size, and the programme's name changed.
