No idea what timetable news are working to, but I was told last week WS would be in the new BHX by January 2013. I've heard conflicting rumours about whether BBC London's space in Egton Wing is temporary or not, maybe they will just get some additional space elsewhere rather than a full move. I'm also not expecting Arabic and Persian services to get shifted anywhere closer to the other WS language services, but a reconfiguration could be on the cards to allow the studios to be shared between themselves and other future WS TV channels.

I was shown a very high level sketch of the latest space allocation in the new BH extension during a team meeting recently, but this wasn't signed off, so I reckon nothing is set in stone yet as to who goes where.

Off-topic, but what do the BBC have in mind with regard to future WS TV channels? I have heard Urdu is next on the cards, but also Chinese and Spanish in the long-term.

EDIT: I thought I might as well continue in this thread as BvshHouse had already raised a point I wanted to ask a question about.

That's pretty far off topic!

The rumours discussed earlier in the year are still around, and the volume of video content being produced by all the language services for online use is increasing. In the short term I'd expect to see more of programmes like Turkish TV or Mundo Freak that can be syndicated to other broadcasters and websites. That's pretty much the best that can be expected from the current facilites in Bush House before a move to W1. A recent project to build another TV studio in Bush was vetoed (quite rightly IMHO) as not cost effective for the 2-3 year life it would have.

Meanwhile back at BBC London...
That Barco screen they use for the weather forecast doesn't look happy. Every time I've seen it in use it has been throwing up odd green frames during playback as though someting in the chain feeding it is loosing sync lock. I'd be interested to know what they use to drive it though. An all singing and dancing Viz engine is usually out of reach of a region's budget. I've heard that PixelPower kit or hand-me-down Astons from TVC get used instead.

It must be a quiet news day at BH this afternoon as a story from Hove of all places featured on the lunchtime bulletin. Even the newsreader stumbled as she mentioned the town which I think gets it's local news from either BBC South or BBC South East depending on if you watch on satellite or terrestrial.

What was the story, just out of interest?

A woman who's been refused plastic surgery on the NHS as they consider her problem to be cosmetic, despite the problem making her unable to walk properly. I couldn't see any connection with the London editorial area in the report which was produced by BBC South East.

Riz with the Sunday London news today, most unusual to see the main presenter at the weekend!

Hopefully now they're doing more weekend bulletins the quality will improve - they have been dire up till now.

Until these latest BBC changes London Tonight has provided a far superior weekend service.

I wouldn't bank on it, given how shoddy some of the weekday programmes are both in terms of content and on the technical side of things.

Is it to with the extra bulletins (attempt to promote them)? Look North Hull had main presenter Peter Levy presenting tonight as well

Possibly, however I did not watch yesterday so I don't know if she was on yesterday as well.

As did Ranvir Singh of North West Tonight fame.
