Probably made easier by the fact that the pres director at RedBee can see BBC London's output off-air and can wait until they're doing something that isn't going to howl?

Not possible unless, for some reason, they've booked a feed of Network into their gallery. BBC London don't have a network feed permanently, and can't soft-opt. They are either network sustaining (and thus don't need to opt) or crash-opt out of network (when they aren't sustaining).

There are, however, plans afoot...

At present, the BBC London opt switch lives in CCA, and is essentially triggered using a very long bit of string to the gallery in BH. In the next few months, BH will get a sustaining feed of BBC One, and the opt switch mechanism will be moved, so that they'll be in line with all the other regions.

(This will also prevent the reoccurrence of a problem which happened a few months back - during the headlines at the top of the Ten, London opted, unaware that their studio feed to TVC had died, so the region got a few seconds of black instead.)

When it was originally set up they included a confidence feed showing the output of both sides of the switch so that the gallery at Elstree (later MHS) could be sure that their output was reaching TVC and would appear on air when they opted. I wonder if that moved over to BH?

You can probably take a guess on that one...
