PM interview (with Alex Baxter) repeated at 11:30pm GMT, and then at midnight, BBC WN played a recorded news bulletin from TVC... Do we expect a live overnight bulletin starting at 1am?

ANyone note who has presented Look North Hull so far today? Usually manage to produce their own version and not covered by Leeds.
Peter Levy?
That's correct, and he had to read the weather himself, instead of doing his usual "Good evening young man!" with Paul Hudson.

I can't ever remember the Today programme airing on a strike day.

I can never remember a normal weekday edition of Today or Newsnight airing during a strike.
Taking two 6 music shows off with sympathetic presenters must be a bonus too.

Lauren Laverne's show was done by Tim Burgess of the Charlatans which she promoted on her twitter feed. It certainly wasn't off the air and anyway 6 music is hardly R2. Very Happy
Yesterday afternoon the NUJ claimed that the 6 and 10 would only be 10-15 minutes long and that Panorama was cancelled Rolling Eyes
They cancelled Breakfast, which they rarely do,.

I'm fairly sure Breakfast during the last strikes was Gavin Grey doing a normal BBC bulletin just with Breakfast branding.
The last strike was a 2 day affair iirc and most high profile presenters crossed the picket line on the Saturday ( the second day). Evan Davis and Sarah Montague did Today and Louise Minchin and Charlie Stayt did Breakfast as normal. I'm fairly sure a lot of reporters crossed the picket that day too as they disagreed with the policy of a 2 day strike.

I agree with DVB Cornwall on this - it's certainly been the most problematic strike for a while.

Mainly because it was a holiday in the US and the news channel suffered from a lack of US recorded and live content unlike the last 2 strikes. Taken with the Parliament recess, I think they did just as well given the cards they were given.

Yes, on one of the past strikes there was a story that appeared in a few places about listeners ringing the BBC saying they preferred Just a Minute to Today.

Panorama was presumably a late change but even if the strike caused it not to be ready they probably would have had the planned edition to play.

I think the disadvantage this time has been that they're between moves. Not having everyone in the same place will spread resources more thinly and complicate matters somewhat.

The 2005 strike was far more disruptive, but then that was a NUJ/BECTU joint action (other ones since might have been too, I can't remember)

The NUJ are planning to re-ballot members in the next few weeks so more strikes could come over the summer. The interesting thing this time around is BECTU also plan to ballot members.

If they are reballoting in the next few weeks then the strikes will be in the next month or two. Once a ballot is taken, the strike must be held within 28 days, giving the organisation 7 days notice.

Ratings for yesterday

06:00-08:30
BBC One - 895,000 (24.8%)
ITV (excluding +1 / HD) - 881,000 (24.4%)

With +1 and HD, Daybreak narrowly beat Breakfast with average 900,000 viewers with a 1.3 million peak.

08:30-09:15

BBC One - 1.13m (18.6%)
Lorraine (excluding +1/HD) - 1.34m (22.1%)

Figures courtesy of DS.

So, yesterday was very close in the ratings with ITV just beating BBC Breakfast including +1 and HD figures. It is the first time in four years that ITV's audience share has surpassed 24% (highest share since Daybreak launched in 2010). It will be interesting whether this will have any long term impact on the ratings.

Also, I would like to see both Ranvir and Helen present more often on the main show. I think whatever the future of Daybreak they surely must be given more prominent roles.

This was in the Daybreak thread about Monday morning's ratings. The news/daytime programmes actually did very well holding up against Daybreak. Particularly against Lorraine (where there was no news replacement and Breakfast was effectively 'over').
