I wonder if construction of the set at Elstree is under way yet? I'm hoping that we'll start to see some publicity shots soon.

Horrific! Wrong BBC London logo and terrible alignment.
It's also using the wrong election logo - UK ELECTION 2015 is meant for BBC World and not domestic....

They were rehearsing in the 1997 election studio over a year before it happened (spot the 'Election 96' logo, and Paxman's hemlock quote that he actually said on the night), although of course we have fixed-term parliaments now, so they can be a bit more flexible when it comes to rehearsing.
On a related note, there's an upcoming new programme looking back at BBC's election night coverage, presented by Peter Snow: Sixty Years of Swing , next Sunday at 9pm on BBC Parliament.

Though that was probably a short rehearsal to check the new set fitted and worked in TC1. It wasn't standing for a year. Because there was uncertainty about when elections could be called, the BBC had to commission and test sets early.

Oh dear, that doesn't look very good at all, does it? I appreciate it's hard to find a decent projection surface on that building, but it looks really messy. Maybe they should have just used the courtyard side?

DO
For any projection mapping to look good, you have to be in the location it was designed to be seen from. I suspect those are supposed to be seen from the BH outdoor camera, which looks down onto the building.
Plus, they always take a lot longer to set up than people imagine. Until it's finished it's hard to judge the final effect.

They did a pretty good job on the then Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster in 2010, so I'd imagine they'll do just as well this time round.

Looking at the courtyard side, there are other graphics going on there already.

I'd wait until you see it on camera from the position it is designed to be seen from, and with the finalised graphics, before passing judgement. Graphics projected onto buildings are usually optimised for a certain camera position, rather than from a random 'camera phone' shot.
