Of course he has been doing it for years, on BBC Wales.

Laura K seems to be Political Editor in waiting on this performance.

It will be interesting to see if when the post does become available if it is taken internally - the past few times it has been an external candidate. There are suggestions that Robert Peston might be interested in the post in future and I thought there was a desire to avoid Editors become stuck in the same post for what can feel like forever. What this election has shown is the strength the BBC has across its political team - very much not reliant on a single one or two people.

Really enjoyed Andrew Marr being in the studio on the programme. I like Nick Robinson as well but I really enjoy listening to Marr and I think he's been excellent, very fair and very engaging.

One little thing I've not liked on the Beeb coverage is that their live bug has often put the location of the declaration, rather than the seat it's declaring. That last declaration had "REDRUTH" on the screen, which is not in itself incorrect, but the seat is called St Ives. Same as this morning at Farage's count, it said Live from Margate, which is again not the name of the seat, and casual viewers who are only half watching or half asleep might wonder what count it is, because they knew Farage was standing in Thanet South, not Margate. So, sort that out for next time, please.

I also think Twitter would have been a lot quieter last night if the Beeb repeatedly put on their ticker "Because ITV announce them before they're officially confirmed" and "He's had cancer".

Also as well, nobody's yet asked the vital question of the past 24 hours. That being, will the news and weather be included on any future repeats on BBC Parliament?

It seems to depend on where the old ones are recorded from and how they transmitted in the first place. So 1979 starts with the globe so is presumably a recording of the output, so had news and weather. 1997 must be a studio recording and presentation controlled the switch to news/weather, so there's nothing to show.

It looks as though the news updates in this one came via the election gallery as the transition was fairly slick, so I imagine the updates will be there, and the breakfast regional opts would presumably have all the mucking about outside NBH on that boring map that they had this morning.

Either way, we'll find out on Saturday. In 2005 on the Saturday repeat we got to see the full half hour BBC London programme in the 0900 slot which in those days when I lived in York was a bit of a treat.

Surprisingly, I liked the map on the plaza more than I thought I would. Initially, it seemed a gimmick, but by standardising the size of constituencies, it proved to be a simple yet effective at-a-glance guide of what had changed. Clearly some thought went into it.

Indeed, it's all based on what came through the studio, so you have the news in 1979 because it links directly into the election coverage. In 1983 they include the lunchtime news because they have an in-vision handover but in 1987 none of the news bulletins during the Friday are included because, as you say, presumably they came through presentation and would have been surrounded by trailers and there was a regional element as well of course.

In one of the 74s, though, they don't include the news but they do include the weather because Barbara Edwards is actually in the studio.

And 1997 doesn't even have the graphics on either, which is a shame.

Louise Minchin hosting new bulletins from NBH. Has she ever hosted from there before? I believe it could be her first time.

Many locations however were declaring several seats. I think it was right for the locator to identify the location of the OB, and for the lower thirds to be used to identify which seat was declaring. I do think though at times, this was confusing and slightly cluttered.

On Twitter Louise seemed to suggest it was her first time in studio E.
