Angela Rippon going round the election studio on tonight's One Show

Fantastic feature on the One show tonight. Angel Rippon recalling the history of Election broadcasting. Sophie Haworth also answering my question of how the map will work. They've invited 100 guests from around the UK to get involved in helping her move the pieces as the results roll in. I like it.

I'm a little disappointed with Sophie's map: I did expect it to be more technical than simply replacing coloured hexagons during the course of the night.

I suppose it depends what else they're doing around it.

I assume the balcony on the left is the Andrew Neil/ Old Paxman interview area. With Fiona Bruce at the Sunderland Count. I assume the role of newsreader is gone from election night.
Love that the stairs is in the NBH style too.

I thought Sophie Raworth was the newsreader on the night?

She possibly is - but it'll come from BH for sure. She's manning the map being constructed outside BH.

Reeta Chakrabarti will be doing the summaries, but you're right in saying they're coming from NBH.

How long has Jon Sopel been covering UK elections?

Is Matthew Amroliwala going to make an appearance on the national coverage this year? I've seen him in the international promotional materials.

I don't usually talk presenters but is it just me that isn't really fond of Reeta Chakrabarti? She's a perfectly competent presenter, but it just seems odd that she jumped from her role as a correspondent to being on the national news and election night so quickly.

I think she's quite good actually.

Besides, I'm not sure the jump is that quick. Her background includes various stints on both BBC R4 and 5 Live (including PM, Today and World at One etc).

Not a fan at all and couldn't agree more.

Her presenting has been discussed here in the past and I agree with you. When she first started I didn't even think she was all that competent but she has improved. I'm still not that fond of her presenting but have nothing against reporting, which she has done recently.
