Serious question - how many interviewees do they expect to have in the studio on the night/during Friday with Andrew Neil? Elstree is a bit of a trek from where most of them will be based. A lot of these interviews were always down the line with candidates at the counts so that won't change - but I'm interested how many of the other guests will actually go the Elstree studio.
Well, in 1987, as seen on BBC Parliament, they actually had a couple of guests down the line from Elstree (albeit one of them was Cecil Parkinson and Elstree was actually in his constituency). Apart from the MPs with London constituencies I can't imagine Elstree being massively less convenient than Shepherd's Bush was - most of the MPs are all over the country and it's probably easier to get to Elstree than having to traipse into central London, and indeed between one part of London to another. It's not much further away than Osterley either.
I've actually just had a fiddle with the AA Route Planner too, based on Michael Portillo being in the BBC studio in 1997 before going to his count at Enfield Southgate. Taking the postcode of Southgate College - N14 6BS - it points out that it's thirteen miles from W12 7RJ, taking 31 minutes, but only eight and a half miles from Elstree Studios at WD6 1JF, taking twenty minutes. So less convenient for some, more convenient for others.
