Noted the presenter refered to 'Capital Gold' not 'Gold'. Faux pas or crap research?

I don't know if that's a reference to past version of the station; but in the East Midlands Trent, Ram and Leicester Sound were rebranded Capital FM "[for the] East Midlands" the other week.

That was the point of the report.

The BBC in the East Midlands have made a 'big thing' of the re-branding of Trent/Ram/Leicester sound emphasising the fact that the majority of their programmes are now broadcast from London rather than in the East Mids.
Radio Leicester have gone as far as stating in a trailer that Leicester Sounds 'local' broadcasts at breakfast/drive time are from Nottingham now not locally from Leicester.

What about their own evening local radio broadcasts then? Don't they come from Nottingham too?

True - but I think they (Radio Leicester) are pushing that all their daytime programming is from Leicester.
Even so, some of the Capital listeners in the East Mids. probably haven't noticed a great deal of difference, apart from the name change and different DJ's, if the music policy is similar as before. Same as when Central moved Central News East to the Gas Street studios in Birmingham, plenty of viewers still assumed it was coming from Nottingham.

BBC Nottingham has an advert, with all its presenters saying where they live in Notts (or where there are from in the county, if 'native'), to emphasise it's the only radio station covering soley the Nottingham area.
