Currently on the Red Button is MOTD3. Recorded after MOTD2 on Sunday night, in the intro Colin Murray says that they have to be brief as "BBC Breakfast News" needs to be in the studio. They are in the usual studio, which is certainly not Breakfast's - unless there was a change on Monday?! Or is Colin Murray just saying that for comedy effect?!

I don't know enough about the setup but could MOTD3 have been using the gallery used by Breakfast/North West Tonight?

Nope, I imagine it was a tongue in cheek joke.

Am I being stupid? I don't get the joke...

I think he might be implying that they are up so late filming MOTD3 that the breakfast team will start coming in. That's what I read into it anyway.

Really strange to see Louise Minchin, or indeed any Breakfast presenter, do the programme all week Monday-Friday. She's a great fit for the programme.

I suspect she'll have a little break. Also worth noting that she'll be presenting Drive on 5 Live on Mondays and Tuesdays starting from the week after next following the departure of Aasmah Mir from the station.

Naga Munchetty will be on Breakfast Saturday and Sunday, after doing a full week on BBC World as well, albeit not in her usual 5am slot every day, but a combination of programmes. Seven day week!

In fact, I've just done the same.

I did have to chuckle this morning about all the fuss that's been made lately about Breakfast struggling to get guests up to Salford to sit on the sofa. It seems even the BBC Director General George Entwhistle can't be bothered to make the trip as he was interviewed at length this morning 'down the line' from West London.

Um, perhaps because he's a bit busy in London at the moment and shouldn't be wasting 7 hours of his life making the round trip?

I don't think the "West" bit of the "West London" caption is really necessary - to most people he's in London and that's all you need to know, especially given as he's just in a cupboard at TVC it's not a location-specific interview.

I'm also not keen on how Breakfast use the same backdrop for guests down-the-line from London as is used for some of the short news bulletins, blurs the boundaries a little IMHO.

It does however explain the differing backgrounds - West London is different to Central London which is different to Westminster.

Yes, it does look rubbish and they seem to make a habit of using it especially at weekends - surely it can't be that hard to change the backdrop to a London one during broadcasts such as that?

But that's my point! If he can't be wasting time for the round trip, why is anyone else going to? Given that he is where the book stops with all things BBC you would think he would try & lead by example. What I'm saying is it doesn't give the right impression when even the top dog isn't seen making an effort to be in the Salford studio.

Completely agree on both counts. The 'west' part is irrelevant, they'd be better either putting 'London' or as they sometimes do 'Television Centre' if they want to be more specific.

Do you not think his priorities may lie elsewhere this weekend? I.E sorting out the Newsnight mess, for which he needs to be in London. He was interviewed on more than just Breakfast this morning.
