We've just had Ed Milliband on the programme. He's in Manchester, and so is the studio, yet we did it via video link. It works. This is the way of things.
Suppose it dumps all over the people that whine about the production being in the NW.

I THANK YOU.

I would assume that Ed Miliband is very busy at his party's conference and doesn't have a spare 20 minutes travelling time to get to MediaCity and back, in addition to getting prepped to go on air and so on. He was at MediaCity on Sunday after all.

Susanna apologised at the end of the programme because of an open mic blunder, in which someone used some offensive language. She said that the problem would be rectified so that it doesn't happen again.

What happened exactly, if anyone watched this morning?

EDIT: Just searched on Twitter. Just answered my own question.

Most obvious is not needing two studios manned for the news inserts into the Marr show on a Sunday.

Laughing Is that your best example of duplication. With Breakfast and The Politics show opt out recording from there within hours of each other I think you'll need to find a better example of inefficency!

Correct me if I am wrong but before the move from TVC to Salford Quays the news insert in Sunday AM (as it was then) was actually a separate studio anyway - so its no different. All that is happening is that instead of a London News studio being used its one in Salford Quays - normally used for the NWT Breakfast inserts - and to be fair from what I gather its not even a studio but a slight separation from the NWT newsroom. with a greenscreen.

The news inserts pre-Salford on Andrew Marr were done in the same studio as the programme: in TC7 using the green screen in the corner. Can't comment all the way back to Sunday AM.

The new set-up indeed uses the NWT Breakfast studio, which is also used for the Politics Show. Obviously, this would need to be lit, sound mixed etc. and so I'd say it is a studio space, not just a slight separation. Also it uses a large plasma, not green screen.

Is the news from Salford into Marr not just the same kind of set up as DTL interview, just with added autocue controlled from London? In fact do they have a separate DTL position or do they just use that studio for guests at Salford into other programmes?

Correct, essentially same as DTL from Salford, albeit autocue feed and all controlled from the Main Gallery as opposed to the Presentation Gallery. Just the one position in Salford DTLs which is the Pres Studio.

I think you're right for the first bit, but is probably more complicated. The same area is used for contributions into BBC News and its other programmes.

EDIT: Thanks gregmc for much more knowledgeable explanation.

Not sure if it was spotted, the news was from Studio D for Marr a couple of Sundays ago. Riz Lateef reading the news.
