Looks as if it's a temporary measure as the frosting elements are to go when BBC NEWS moves to BH.

I thought the frosting was staying on fake backgrounds but not the real ones. I'm sure I read that somewhere on here. Might be wrong though

Nope, see Midlands Today for a new style fake background (and set)

Hmmm not keen on that at all. The frosting doesn't really stand out enough and the result is it looks like there's a big smudge on the lens. It would be better with no frosting at all, but if it has to be there then it should be a bit more obvious that it is actually a branding element rather than a malfunction.

Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail are both running stories on their websites about the possibility of moving the post 8:30 part of Breakfast back to London, because Salford is apparently not attracting good enough guests. 'Breakfast Extra' is a possibility, according to the articles.
Another suggestion is to extend to 9:15 with news content or studio debate.
Personally, I don't think there's an ounce of truth in either article. They only decide to mention at the bottom that a BBC Breakfast spokesperson has dismissed the idea entirely. I don't actually think the show is having any trouble getting the guests, and these papers are making a problem from nothing, a part of the programme which makes up 30% of the programme's output. I watched a programme from London a few weeks back, and really there were guests that I had never heard of before there, yet it is more important to judge the guests on what they have achieved, not how famous they are. The programme still has very good coverage in news, sport and business and manage to attract suitable guests for all three. These articles, in short, seem complete rubbish and are again unfairly targeting Salford.
In fact, this week the post-8:30 part has been particularly good, especially compared to even Daybreak and Lorraine. Guests included Alicia Keys, Will Young and stars from The Paradise. No problems there. And an improvement in Salford is the frequency of live performances in the studio.

That should be a criminal offence. Then again, so should the Daily Mail.
Hmm the Daily Telegraph is just quoting the Mail though.

BBC confirmation on BBC News that the article on Daily Mail is complete rubbish.

Much as I am not a fan of the Salford move, the DM article is nonsense. There is no basis for their story. It seems someone had a discussion about separating the last part into a different show and the DM took this to mean it would be moving to London. No story.

Agreed it is laughable really, the show is still easily beating Daybreak etc for guests. The Mail cant attack its ratings or say how much Daybreak has prospered by the move so have to make up some nonsense about video link, which was widely used (mostly by Politicans) when it was in London. They then suggest the 8-9.15 part may move to London to stop this, the part with zero interviews done by link!
The article is by Paul Revoir who writes most of the Mail's hit pieces on the beeb and facts are not his stong point.
