Ha, Jono! I actually just posted that to see who was awake back there! LOL. The weather back in the UK has created a noticeable lack of posting on TVF in the last few days.

Actually, I agree with you regarding Newsnight. But I think the notion of the National News Bulletins only being possible from London is an old notion. If it's essentially a matter of feeding an autocue down the line to a cheaper production location, the vast majority of viewers won't even know or notice where the bulletin is coming from.

Thread creeping mind you.........enjoy the sunshine!

Yes, that backdrop is crystal clear. Very crisp indeed. Plasma works well.

And.........mores the point, albeit a short broadcast, proves that the National News cam be devolved away from the Capital City!

Newsnight should move to Salford next.

...really? I know the "oh what about the guests" thing is a bit overplayed sometimes, and it's never good to use a cliche as an argurment, but Newsnight relies on political guests. Being a show about politics. Politicians generally from the Houses of Parliament. Yes, not all news is London so some news things can get away with it, and it's good to represent more places, but politics coverage tends to be based around there for a reason.

Indeed BBC WORLD - I enjoy reading your posts greatly and agree with you 99.9% of the time, but moving Newsnight to Salford? Surely not!

Even take a look at the US - the big weekly political shows (Meet the Press, Face the Nation) come from Washington while their respective network headquarters are in New York.

Keep the political programming where the politics is!

EDIT: sorry BBC World . . . you just beat me to it! And yes I agree, nothing to stop a national bulletin being read from Salford.

Need to be careful here. Whilst Naga is reading the news from Salford - is much of the work being done in Salford or London? All the reports etc are being played out from London and I would imagine that this change is about returning to the situation where a separate newsreader is not required for two short news summaries. This was the reason after all why Moira Stuart stopped reading the news summary.

Charlie and Louise deserved either a medal or a stiff drink after doing Breakfast this morning, having to deal with the breaking welsh flooding story with no pictures but only some 'members of the public' on the phone. Particularly car crash TV was one women with a strong West Midlands accent who was giving sensationalised one word answers to everything "It's really bad" etc which Charlie and Louise had to try and flesh out into something substantial and balanced.

Presumably he means as in a "Brummie" (Birmingham) or "Black Country" (e.g. Dudley, Wolverhampton etc) type accent?

Think of the how the likes of, say, Slade frontman Noddy Holder speaks, for example. Smile

I knew exactly what was meant - just seemed odd to say "West Midlands accent".

I deliberately didn't say Brummie because I didn't want to fall into a similar trap to how people refer to all North East accents as geordie whether they are from Tyneside, Teeside or Wearside.

Nobody cares... just stick it in the Rota Thread so we can all ignore it.
