Are we expecting Bill/Susanna/Charlie/Louise to take on any extra BBC reponsibilities, such as a few relief news channel/bulletin shifts? I am just thinking that they are all presenting a lot less editions than before, so unless they have all significantly reduced their hours they must have other planned projects. I know Louise was supposed to be doing some presenting for 5 live - but I haven't heard about any of the others. In particular Charlie always seemed to present a high edition count through his own days and covering Bills so I would imagine would be looking for a few occasional extra shifts (in London).

Bill has reduced by 1 day, everyone else is doing exactly the same as before!

Yes, but from the patterns we have been seeing - before the deputy presenters also did the main 4 day shift every so often as cover - so the new patterns appear to take days away from everyone. According to the BBC News Presenters site in 2011 the main presenters did the following number of shifts:

01 (03) Charlie Stayt - 161 programmes
02 (02) Bill Turnbull - 160 programmes
03 (01) Sian Williams - 143 programmes
04 (04) Susanna Reid - 100 programmes
05 (05) Louise Minchin - 68 programmes

There is no way Charlie is going to be anywhere near that mark this year - hence my question.

Why not? What is there to say that Charlie wouldn't do Monday to Thursday or even Friday on a week he is in for Bill. Just because Bill is appearing on screen three times a week doesn't automatically mean Charlie will do the same when Bill isn't on the show.

Why does any of this matter?

The number of editions a presenter is going to do matters if it means we will see them somewhere else - if for example Bill did a few cover bulletins to make up the shifts or Charlie occasionally appeared on the news channel then that would be noteworthy.

Yeah but surely until either of those things happen, it's not really that noteworthy, George?

So we've got Sally Nugent and Roger Johnson tomorrow, with George Riley on the sport.

Would anyone be able to record this tomorrow and put snippets on YouTube?

Cheeky request, and I will be watching, but it would be great to keep it for those who can't watch and for years to come, of course!

The lack of technology where I am doesn't allow me to capture at the moment Sad

No - but worth the speculation. Very Happy

There's a BBC News Presenters & Rotas fansite ? That sounds a-mazing, let's all go there right now to continue this discussion in far greater detail.

*hides behind door* have they gone?

I thought that Roger and Sally worked well together. I wasn't too sure about this partnership, watching two sports presenters doing the news. They seemed very keen to talk about sport during the paper review. (Sticking with what their comfortable with) They also seemed very keen to ask questions during George's interview with a former Man City player.

I would love to see George more on television. I know he has lots of commitments on 5 Live, but I think it would be great to see him more on the news channel and on Breakfast.

This picture shows just how beautiful the Salford news studio can look with a decent background on the screens. How long do we expect them to persist with the 'sunset paradise' Breakfast are using?
