I did notice at 22:30 last night, 30 seconds worth of the lottery results caption on BBC1, totally static. Just saying.

No - they had the usual animated grey circles in the background (at least on BBC One England HD).

I must have been totally captivated by the audio content in that case ! Wink

Yep - the lottery graphic has an animating background...

I'm not sure what happens with the overnight slides on 4 and CBBC, presumably they just disable the alarm until audio resumes, those sort of predictable 'faults' can be easily dealt with than a news package

In Playout 1 the alarms used to go off at 18:58 every single day without fail. I'm sure it's still the same up in Salford. Don't forget, there's also a bit of black and silence between CBeebies going off air and BBC Four starting up.

One of the channels I used to work on used to go off air to a silent holding slide between midnight and lunchtime, we'd mute the alarms overnight. The tricky part was remembering to turn them back on again!

Aren't both of those slides animated?

They are, but they're mute

I know of other places where that happens. It ruins the calm ambience of bedtime hour!

The trick is to have 'mute until cleared' so the alarm doesn't go off until the audio has come back

Here is Mike Bushell's unfortunate mishap while attempting to interview some medal-winning swimmers at the Commonwealth Games this morning. It certainly had me laughing . . . Very Happy

It's always a good idea to do a recce of your interview location before starting, as water dripping from your microphone is never going to be a good sign. Shocked

Good job the sound cut out when he fell in... Sounded like a "Oooh f**k" to me!

I guess I'm becoming a bit of a "studio lights and colours" nerd. Anyway, the tweaks for a Kylie interview today were a nice touch:

Nearly any background looks better than the plain one they normally use.

They're becoming more adventurous with their use of the lights and screens, and it shows how adaptable the current set is.

The wide shot makes it feel a lot bigger than normal.

Totally adventurous for the old BEEB News. Seems like GMA or TODAY when they have a special guest. LOL

Doesn't that just happen whenever Kylie walks into a room?

This is what’s great about these studios they can do fantastic things with lighting, unfortunately Studio E has the real news backdrop so despite the ability to change the lighting it’s limited due to it which unfortunately means BBC News Channel always has the red white colour theme, this is why I watch BBC World News where the colour lighting is done by programme.
