The point is that this studio exists. To my knowledge it hasn’t been used before. It’s certainly large enough and may offer a suitable backdrop.

It's a conference room apparently. Just a temporary facility. It will probably be returned to a conference room at the end of the Olympics.

Nothing is ever “a hint to a new look”

That is such an overused idea on this forum, has been for years.

So true. I remember way back in about 2003, BBC News launched some red and white new graphics for the big screens in N6. Everyone here thought it was a hint as to what would come in the December 2003 rebrand...alas it was not to be as the eventual rebrand was black and orange!

which went red in 2007

Actually they went red in about 2005, but the January 2003 big screen red and white designs were quite different to what came in the December 2003 rebrand. The point was that I remember we all got terribly excited here thinking that the new designs were a hint to a wider rebrand of BBC News. When it eventually came, it wasn't the same as everyone expected.

Except it's not a studio is it?

I'm pretty sure the area has been used as a studio before, because it looked familiar, but I can't remember what for.

World Athletics in 2015. Luckily the studio overlooks Beijing as well as Pyongchang.

Now with all the recent speculation/rumour/gossip/innuendo about a refresh, etc. I’m loathe to post this, but... wouldn’t the BBC Winter Olympic studio make a rather interesting studio for Breakfast?

Before anybody asks - I know nothing. It’s an observation. A suggestion.

Did you never watch Daybreak?

Watching the highlights show Clare Balding is presenting at the moment I think Daybreak is definitely worth remembering. The backdrop of Clare's single is basically black with a strip of light... They are doing a good job with what they have to work with - it's not been badly done.

It looks as if there are some LED pixel pars or similar outside clamped to a balcony to give some depth and interest on some shots that would otherwise be totally dead.

Not sure it's a 'warm and welcoming' Breakfast look though...
