At about 06:17 today, during some post-weather banter between Naga and Tomasz, there was a brief wideshot side angle in which we could see the cameras that are directly in front of the rostrum, and some of the bare bones of the studios.

Given how quickly we then cut to a different shot, it was clearly unintended.

The BBC don't have anything called a 'Sport hub' in Salford AFAIK

You must've completely missed the countless occasions ever since BBC Salford came into service that national news bulletin presenters in London have thrown to a sports headlines round-up "...with <presenter name> in the BBC Sports Centre"?

You mean this?

This is starting to get moronic now. Noggin was clearly making the point that 'BBC Sport hub' wasn't a name they use.

On the one hand this decision make as such sense as the view of Salford they used for their coverage of the World Athletics Championships in Beijing (IIRC),

On the other hand if the tone and content of breakfast is going to be changed in such a way it'll feel like a different programme and if that's the intention I guess moving to a studio that looks more like a sport one makes a sort of sense. Although they could probably make some subtle changes to the breakfast set, Sport style desk etc to change the feel that way.

I suspect the other set (the one used for MOTD3) is more likely, unless World are taking Sport contributions direct from Rio for the duration which might mean the main Sport Centre (the one that looks like a BBC News set in yellow rather than red) might be available.

For the avoidance of all doubt, this is the Sport Centre, Sport Hub, BBC Sport area in Salford, which is where Breakfast will be for the Olympics.

It will be re-lit and re-dressed, in a Breakfast/Sport combo.

Now that could be any old studio Bail - nothing there at all to suggest it has anything to do with BBC Sport. Laughing

It's good that it's getting more use, that set always reminds me of some of the classic Grandstand sets

Indeed.

Presumably, the vast majority of UK viewers' habits still involve them seldom/never tuning in to the NC (or any rolling news channel, for that matter) whatsoever? And that trend may well never significantly change.

In which case, the little sports round-ups during weekend national bulletins on BBC One are the only exposure to the "Sports Centre/Hub" (whatever) studios/sets that many viewers - especially non sports fans - probably ever get.

Therefore, the likes of Breakfast is surely always gonna have infinitely more pairs-of-eyes seeing it each week than the likes of Sportsday ever will?

The fact that output which is probably destined to always be comparatively little-seen got the far superior Salford space (that was apparently originally meant for Breakfast?), whilst the much-more-widely-seen Breakfast got what it currently has, seems daft to say the least.

It's a shame this move will only be a fleeting one.

During London 2012, I watched Breakfast as normal, but this time round considering the lack of news, I think it'll be Sunrise as GMB is just too dumbed down or sensationalist as an alternative.

I know rota talk is discouraged but who has been presenting breakfast over the bank holiday weekend?
