One problem with trying to replace that set is the design of the studio, it isn't exactly big, there isn't a huge amount of room to change things for Breakfast without it affecting North West Tonight. This is not a simple matter. This is perhaps the one problem with taking Breakfast out of London and taking it to Salford.

I don't think there is any easy answer here. It's not a great set design, it's not a decent size studio. Maybe the answer is to bring it back to London and Studio B, but that means problems with the changeover to Victoria Derbyshire now. I don't like the Victoria Dervyshire programme, but it exists and it is now a complicating factor in bringing Breakfast back to London.

You could of course do a big switcheroo, BBC Breakfast is a flagship, longstanding programme with many viewers and thus deserves Studio B. VD on the other hand is a mess that nobody watches so nobody would care if it was in the crappy little set in Salford. Having Breakfast in B would also mean that the whole of GMT could from Studio B. Breakfast also relies more on the wider BBC News Department so would make sense to have it in NBH (Business, politicians, Weather etc.) where as the only real contribution from the rest of the department to VD is pre-packaged reports and weather could come DtL. While on a Sunday Breakfast might have to relocate to Studio E as per the TVC days, it's fine orange goes with red and Sundays on Breakfast are more newsy anyway.

Nonetheless, unlikely to happen.

What about using the studio that's used for The One Show for VD - from what I've heard it seems like the type of show that could fit a street or piazza studio?

The One Show studio isn't part of BBC News so there would be a cost for using it. Its gallery is very different to the news galleries and would quite possibly require more staff - I think the cameras in V are manually operated?

Weekends you could utilise studio A or D. Either decamp World to A or D and give Breakfast the run of C with proper Breakfast colours and the Business Live backdrop or put Breakfast in A and virtually recreate the Studio B space.

I like the current set which has a cosy feel to it. However I do not like the backdrop they use. That's all I would change set wise. Maybe a new table, too.

I was only asking out of interest as the show is in need of a revamp isnt it. The same boring music hasn't changed since 2009 and the set has had its time now after four to five years on air.

With Breakfast television frankly, people like continuity.

Why change something that is continually beating the opposition off hands down?

Sometimes I think some people don't get that.

BBC Breakfast works perfectly well - I don't really see the need to change the set or the music.

There have been small subtle changes over the years - nothing more than that is needed.

I'm not sure what kind of viewers will turn off simply because of a lick of paint.

Certainly a complete change is unnecessary and won't happen. But I don't think that's what Tv_Wales was suggesting.

We're told a lot on here that normal viewers don't care or notice about minor changes or refreshes unless it's pointed out anyway.

The original Breakfast titles lasted six years (with changes to the music) but the following ones have only been used for a few years each, I imagine a new look will come around in a year or two anyway based on that.

I don't think we will see any change in direction until or if BBC News ever changes their brand. Like other people have said, there is not any need for major changes. The set is nice enough, even if it it's nothing impressive.

Does anyone else agree they should change the backdrop on the screens?

Yes I've never really liked that backdrop. If there was a bit more furniture in the fake atrium and the perspective was a bit more realistic then I think it could look nice. This simple change could make the world of difference.

I would like them to ditch the furniture and use a nice enhanced view of the Salford Quays.

The studio is on the South East corner of the building, in other words sunlight streaming in most of the year at tx time !

I don't think JDN knows there are windows behind the screens...

Is breakfast directly above the tours room which I think was originally planned to be NWT studio?
