She did indeed provide some cover during the 2012 Olympics. . . and on WN in 2013.

I also remember her ITN days. Thumbs up

I don't see the likes of Steph McGovern, Sally Nugent or the other Sunday presenters as 'random nobodies'.

I remember when the wonderful broadcasting stalwart/veteran/legend that is Fiona Armstrong once did BBC Breakfast on a Sunday a year or two ago, and there was a torrent of trolling abuse from low-life cretins on Tw*tter/FaceAche et al about "who the hell is this nobody?!" and such. Sometimes, I think that the human race could do with a new bout of bubonic plague.

Excuse me? OK, I accept "random nobodies" in my last post was harsh (post now edited) and I apologise for any offence caused but implying that I am one of the trolling "low life cretins" who, in your opinion, ought to be wiped out in a "new bout of bubonic plague" is downright appalling.

It's a shame that Fiona's return to national broadcasting turned out to be merely a publicity stunt. Of all the mature female presenters who were brought back, Fiona was by far and away the best, even managing to take rolling news (something which didn't exist during her ITN days) in her stride. Her skills as a news presenter had not diminished over time and revisiting that Breakfast clip from 2012 makes me realise I'd much sooner watch Fiona than some of the younger female presenters who are on TV news these days. She's a very classy lady, that's for sure.

She was also one of the original GMTV presenters, Monday to Thursday with Michael Wilson.

Here here! Completely agree. She was fabulous on Lookaround before the merger with Tyne Tees. It's a shame she is only seen on an ad hoc basis these days.

Thanks, I was wondering if she is still seen on TV. I live in the Granada region so I don't have the opportunity to watch Fiona any more.

Here she is in her early years at ITN (warning: this clip contains a classic news theme that sounds like cats being strangled. May damage hearing) https://youtu.be/5uQz04UftEk?t=10m49s

I did think Dan Walker did particularly well as a stand-in the other week, and I noticed he popped up last Saturday doing a sports interview alongside Mike Bushell on the sofa, and it all looked very congenial as though he was very much part of the 'Breakfast Family'.

He does that every Saturday, he always pops in at 8.30 for a chat.

So it's all still 'up in the air', perhaps?

It did seem at the time as if he was being lined up to replace Bill directly but possible I guess that he's being lined up as first choice cover as if they go the obvious route and give Jon Kay the role there are I guess 10-12 weeks a year which need either Jon or Charlie covering, which is something that probably could be accomodated alongside his BBC Sport and 5 Live roles.

I take it she no longer does cover for the BBC news channel anymore?

Harsh. Some of us have fond memories of that era of ITN music.

Nope - I think it's been at least 2 years since she covered a shift there Sad
