He did seem a bit random to cover Bill Turnbull's holiday though, usually they use someone like Charlie Stayt or Jon Kay. I reckon we will see him again at some point at least.
So Dan Walker really was just covering for Bill Turnbull who has been on holiday this week, as his Tweet earlier today suggested. Nothing long term here.

I saw the McGowan interview, and thought the comment about Strictly seemed to indicate that Dan Walker was more than just a stand-in for the week.
I was on leave Mon & Tues, so saw more of Breakfast than I normally do, and I thought Dan made a very good replacement for Bill.
No doubt that it's a trial given they've covered Bill's absences throughout the years without bringing in people from outside the Breakfast family. Indeed in the later interview with Alastair McGowan he was being talked about as if he would be in it for the long haul with references to the obligatory next step being Strictly.

The NC carried the 8:27 BBC London News bulletin and is currently still sticking with Breakfast at the moment, which is dominated post-8:30 by the news of David Bowie's death.
Was wondering whether a truncated Business Live would appear at 8:45 or something, but it's not looking likely.

Slight opt out problem on BBC1 Scotland this morning, at 08:27. When they went to the regional news, we got about 10 seconds of BBC London, before they faded through to BBC Scotland in Glasgow, where Sally Mcnair then started reading the headlines. So, we didn't miss anything, but I think BBC Scotland weren't quite prepared, as Charlie Stayt had said at the end of a piece "time to get the news and weather where you are" without any time check, or reference to Business Live on the news channel.
Were any other regions caught out?

Charlie Stayt reunited with Louise Minchin for Mondays - Wednesdays; Jon Kay / Roger Johnson with Naga Munchetty Thursdays - Saturdays; random presenters on Sundays. Nothing radical here, I suspect.
Bill Turnbull stated on the programme back in November that he was leaving at the end of January, so I'm assuming that it's going to be next Wednesday, and perhaps his replacement will be confirmed.
Will be quite sad to see him go, but nice to mix up the presenting team again.

I remember Bill saying he would be leaving at the end of January but he just said this:
@UKMarkLeeds Last week of Feb

random nobodies on Sundays.
I'm sure that the likes of John Maguire or Rachel Burden speak very highly of you, too...

So it's all still 'up in the air', perhaps?
I did think Dan Walker did particularly well as a stand-in the other week, and I noticed he popped up last Saturday doing a sports interview alongside Mike Bushell on the sofa, and it all looked very congenial as though he was very much part of the 'Breakfast Family'.

Agreed. I don't see the likes of Steph McGovern, Sally Nugent or the other Sunday presenters as 'random nobodies'.

I remember when the wonderful broadcasting stalwart/veteran/legend that is Fiona Armstrong once did BBC Breakfast on a Sunday a year or two ago, and there was a torrent of trolling abuse from low-life cretins on Tw*tter/FaceAche et al about "who the hell is this nobody?!" and such. Sometimes, I think that the human race could do with a new bout of bubonic plague.
And I'm not aware of Fiona ever doing Breakfast again since. Shame.
