Speaking of North West Tonight, what about Roger Johnson or Dave Guest as possible Bill Turnbull replacements? RJ has experience of presenting it on a Sunday morning, possibly Dave Guest do Sunday mornings in addition to him being chief reporter on NWT?

Personality is usually required for the job. Bill leaves big shoes to fill.

Yeah, no way does Roger Johnson have the levels of charisma required to replace Billy. Personally, I'd love Simon McCoy to get the job.

Agreed. If it were a choice between Roger Johnson and Jon Kay, the latter would get my vote. He seems to be much more comfortable in the role than Johnson. Though from the sounds of it, Dan Walker acquitted himself well this morning.

I don't recall Dave ever presenting a bulletin of NWT?!

I thought Dan did well too. As regards the titles and music, well, if the music works well, and the titles work well, why change? After all, Coca Cola has had the same logo for many many years.

A little bird tells me we may have something new to see and hear at some point in the future. I know there have been talks about a refresh but even more about how and what to do for the best without upsetting existing viewers. Mornings mean routine for most people, one of (IMO) ITVs failures is the constant changes is what put people off. Breakfasts success is that it's format remains relatively unchanged since its inception, people know what they will get regardless of set studio or titles.

Whilst on the topic of Breakfast and NWT, do both come from the same set? If so, I'm guessing the breakfast North west bulletins come from another studio somewhere?

And considering it's his first time on the programme - no stranger to TV though - absolutely no mistakes or nerves.

Although it was his first time doing Breakfast, he does more or less the exact same mix of news, sport and features on 5 Live every day.

Though not the same it's also worth noting that on Saturdays he usually appears in the Breakfast studio with the sports presenter, I think only after 9am. (Provided Football Focus isn't on location.)

Yes, the main ones from from the same set at Breakfast but using a different video backdrop lighting and even camera racking. The opts during breakfast use the small insert studio nearby.

Dan has presented some regional broadcasts - namely Granada News.

As for Bill's replacement, lets get Charlie and Louise together again, for the first part of the week whilst latter part would be good for Naga and either Dan, Jon and even Roger (basically training ground for the prime presenting slot of Monday to Wednesday)

I have been quite surprised at how Dan has coped, so far. Wonder what he is like under a big story.

This morning, at around 6:30, when Dan and Louise welcomed viewers back after the regional bulletins, Louise said, "Welcome back to Breakfast with Louise Minchin and Dan Walker, who's standing in for Bill Turnbull this week."

It leads me to suspect this is a one-off week - which I think is a pity because Walker has been quite good alongside Louise Minchin. In some ways, he's brought a new dynamic to the show for the first time in years.

Does Dan present on Sundays now then? ISTR that at one point he didn't.

No, he's not presented on Sundays to my knowledge - and neither have the main Breakfast presenters as a matter of routine since the move to Salford.

No doubt that it's a trial given they've covered Bill's absenses throughout the years without bringing in people from outside the Breakfast family. Indeed in the later interview with Alastair McGowan he was being talked about as if he would be in it for the long haul with references to the obligatory next step being Strictly.

I can't imagine we will see Dan presenting on Sunday. This interview explains more:

So Dan Walker really was just covering for Bill Turnbull who has been on holiday this week, as his Tweet earlier today suggested. Nothing long term here.
