You haven't. The number of times Alastair has presented the evening news since he 'left' you could probably count on one hand.

I know what I've seen Andrew. I made it quite clear I don't watch the bulletin regularly and it just so happens on the days I've caught it Alastair has often been on duty.

The point is though he hasn't left it completely - and it would be fairly stupid to give someone a goodbye only for them to turn up once a twice a week moving forward.

Anyway back to Breakfast and despite the chatter in the GMB thread expecting a refresh every other week it's rarely commented on for Breakfast. This studio has been in place 4 years now and considering it was never really intended for Breakfast is long over due a refresh, though I understand the space is relatively limited.

The BBC Sport Centre though shows what you can do with fairly limited space - I think their main news set is probably the best the BBC has while their secondary set has gone from looking like a cupboard to actually benig quite nice. Although I suspect that any new look would be quite generic I'm sure they could make it distinctive enough - Victoria Derbyshire may not be a great show but it does manage to have a very distinctive look. More importantly though BBC Breakfast shouldn't be treated as the poor relation just because it's in Salford.

How long are the regional bulletins on Breakfast?
Do they get shorter later on in the programme like GMB does?

The 9AM bulletin is shorter, doesn't usually include a full weather update

The Northern Ireland 9am bulletin certainly does include a weather forecast - could be an exception to the rule.

In NE&C it is usually the presenter reading out a brief summary of the weather. Granted, I don't watch it very often and it may not be the case all of the time.

I thought Dan was great on Breakfast this morning - just the right amount of light-heartedness but serious with news and interviews when needed. The same approach as Bill and brings a bit more youth to the programme too.

I realistically think he'd be a very good replacement for Bill - he seems to work well with Louise and the team too! A good alternative to Piers Morgan on the other side!

And considering it's his first time on the programme - no stranger to TV though - absolutely no mistakes or nerves.

The titles and music are in definite need of a refresh - apart from a slight tweak when they moved in 2012, they've been the same for almost 7 years now, bearing in mind the 2 sets of titles before them only lasted around 3/4 years each.

Although it was his first time doing Breakfast, he does more or less the exact same mix of news, sport and features on 5 Live every day.

Of course they're going to make a big thing of Billy leaving! They announced his departure on air and took loads of silly pictures of the team crying.

I wondered if Dan was being 'screentested' as Bills replacement this morning.

Although given it is a Summer Olympics year, it sort of makes sense to have someone with both news and sport experience. Could Breakfast be live from Rio in August?

That said, if he is being lined up as the regular Mon-Wed presenter it would be a loss to Five Live.

Although that would mean the dreaded prospect of a lot more of Dunton Adybayo invading daytime.
A man (and to recycle a quote by Victor Lewis-Smith) sounds like he has had an adanoyde operation. Not to have them removed - But to have more put in.

I thought Dan did well too. As regards the titles and music, well, if the music works well, and the titles work well, why change? After all, Coca Cola has had the same logo for many many years.

Olympic Breakfast usually replaces it for the Olympics so possible Dan would be involved in that even if he diesn'the become a regular on Breakfast. Also although NWT would have to decamp it would be the perfect opportunity to revamp the studio.

Speaking of North West Tonight, what about Roger Johnson or Dave Guest as possible Bill Turnbull replacements? RJ has experience of presenting it on a Sunday morning, possibly Dave Guest do Sunday mornings in addition to him being chief reporter on NWT?

Personality is usually required for the job. Bill leaves big shoes to fill.

Yeah, no way does Roger Johnson have the levels of charisma required to replace Billy. Personally, I'd love Simon McCoy to get the job.
