Also would Jon Kay want to give up his reporting role as the West of England correspondent for a full time presenting role. It will depend which he prefers.

Why - is he an idiot?

Although I remember reading a while back & understood it to be the same now, that Charlie is Freelance. So he may only want to work those days rather than a promotion.

Almost as dumb as that nonsense a few weeks back when someone questioned whether Bill had to bother turning up because he was supposedly freelance to.

We are not privy to their contract details but whether employed directly by the BBC or contracted by the BBC to provide their services it is quite irrelevant and a change in circumstances simply leads to the necessary changes in contract, and unless it really isn't convenient for your personal circumstances a "promotion" which basically sees you do the same job on different days for possibly a greater financial reward isn'the going to be turned down.

Very unfair comments I would suggest.

Personal circumstances may play an awful lot in considering such a role, given that it would involve either moving home or long distance commuting.

Suggesting that someone would be an "idiot" for not taking the role is really over the top.

A sense of perspective is needed.

How long are the regional bulletins on Breakfast?
Do they get shorter later on in the programme like GMB does?

The 9AM bulletin is shorter, doesn't usually include a full weather update

The ones at the top of the hour tend to be longer than the ones at the bottom. The one past 9:00 is shorter again.

This morning's Match of the Day is scheduled at the top of an hour (8am), rather than somewhere between 7:20-7:40 as usual.

Jon & Steph did the spiel about Breakfast continuing on the NC only at 07:47, explaining that BBC One would be opting out for MOTD after The Travel Show.

On the NC, the Travel Show endcap at 07:59 was immediately followed by a couple of programme trailers before we rejoined Breakfast on the hour.

On BBC One, the Travel Show endcap was immediately followed by the short "BBC News" sting that would usually signify BBC One opting in/out of overnight news simulcasts on weekdays, rather than any "Breakfast"-branded sting/encap. This was then followed by a BBC One "coming up" menu (MOTD and Wanted Down Under) before trailer(s) etc.

Interesting - Dan Walker (Football Focus, 5 live, MOTD stand in) has said on Twitter he'll be presenting Breakfast tomorrow with Louise Minchin.

He's a regular to Saturday Breakfast viewers as he usually appears on the 8.30 sports bulletin to promote Focus, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time he's presented.

Bill was down to present Breakfast and Dan was down to present Afternoon Edition on 5 live, but It's now showing that he won't present that til Thursday this week.

Could this be a trial run perhaps?

I guess he's been drafted in last minute, or perhaps it's a tryout as a Bill/Charlie replacement.

Interesting to see what he'll be like. He hasn't been a newsreader for about seven/eight years when he was at Granada Reports and North West Tonight. I think he'll be good.
