Are you sure? From what I recall there was another sport presenter, the name of whom escapes me, sat at the sofa for the 7am TOTH.

Hugh from BBC Sport came on set to do the later editions of the sports news after Sally had moved over to the main position. Sally did do one round up of Sport, however, from Charlie's position.

Whatever bug Charlie had, it was certainly quick to knock him off the programme.
He did the link to Carol at NBH, and a minute later Louise said he was Ill.
Louise then solo'ed to the regional bully at 6.28, and Sally appeared back at 6.30.

Of course it may not have been a bug or illness at all, there are plenty of alternative scanarios why
he might suddenly have to shoot off, but let's leave it at that....

Charlie looked very ill in that piece. Never seen bags under his eyes like that before. Sally Nugent is a very competent, clear-headed presenter and should be promoted.

Although it was stated he was unwell, so no need for any conspiracy theories.

I wasn't suggesting any conspiracy theory, for goodness sake, it's common sence that if he had to dash off, it's a nice bland statement to give the audience, most of whom by 06:32hrs wouldn't be giving it any further thought.

...which is a conspiracy theory.

How would you expect him to gradually leave the programme less suddenly?

Sit on the edge of the frame, half on half off?

Presumably he was ill during the first half hour but it wouldn't necessarily come across on screen.

I hark back to the time Kenny Toal braved through a whole edition of North East Tonight in 2006 I think.

He was vomiting in buckets during reports and lasted up until the Weather until he had to go. You wouldn't have necessarily thought he was unwell but it is a wonder what makeup can do.

A new background on Breakfast - however I thought when the guest is at NBH, they use the real balcony shot normally?

James has said Breakfast is now making use of the BBC Three CSO studio which will provide better quality sound. Only applies to Breakfast apparently. We could still see some guests appear on the newsroom balcony position as the CSO studio is on the same floor as studio E whilst the balcony position is on the same floor as BBC Weather and reception.
