A couple of points re. this new newspaper review sting:
- I see they're making the newspaper review more prominent in the weekend editions of Breakfast, what with the sting and now two guest paper reviewers. Why don't we get newspaper reviews like this on weekdays? They tend to flick through the headlines momentarily Monday - Friday. Is this because there's less news content during the weekends?
- the sting purely for the newspaper review seems inconsistent when they could just as easily produce stings for the Business and Sport segments of the programme (as I think they did with Breakfast News, c. 1989, but they didn't last long). I suppose this would disrupt the flow of the show, however.
Just some musings.

I disagree. They're a good way to get some decent commentators to look at the big news stories of the day, and often reveal some great exclusives which you wouldn't know about unless you bought every paper.
Newspaper reviews can just go away. Such a lazy waste of airtime.

I agree.
Why not spend more time trying to find new stories, exclusive stories?

Agreed. I find the newspaper reviews help to actually break up the usual mix of reports and interviews that define Breakfast and help to give the programme a bit more of a sense of variety. I can see the logic of limiting an extended 10 minute paper review to the weekend editions - more leisurely pace; more people have time to read papers at weekends - but I wouldn't mind seeing more of this type of thing on the weekday editions. Plus it gives the presenters a little more to do or engage with.

They shouldn't bring this to weekday editions. I don't have time to sit and listen to other people's opinions on a select few articles when I'm getting ready for work in the morning - the "quick look at the front pages" like they do now is fine.

Sunrise already do a paper review with two guests in the back half hour daily if you really have the time to watch a paper review.

Yes some 'lovely' films.
Am I the only one who actually liked the 'lovely films' that featured on the Victoria Derbyshire programme?

... which is why the Papers Review at 0545 on BBC World News/News Channel/BBC One has become less about the papers and more about Social Media and comment in recent weeks. It's also now preceded by a sting which, while featuring many International newspapers, is actually branded 'In the News'. The number of social media stories being discussed on a daily basis varies, but this morning's began with a sequence of several tweets and Hillary Clinton's website before moving on to discussing a couple of newspaper stories.
I think a mixed news review approach is rather a good way of doing things.
