Iirc she did it more than once and it wasn't last minute.
In the run up to the 2010 election for a week or 2, Sian and Bill took turns presenting from locations across the country. So Chris/Carol and Simon joined the sofa to co present at various intervals. It was really awkward imo.

Bill is in Afghanistan.. according to Breakfast Facebook page, ready for reporting live on Friday and Saturday on British troops pulling out of the region.

She's only been on once, it was only Bill that went out on location for the election in 2010. Simon covered until 8.30 and then Chris came on afterwards when Simon went and did NC duties.
With the pic above i remember that Carol didn't come on until after the news/sport round up at 8.30-8.40 was done and then came on for the entertainment type bit towards the end of the show.

I have strong memories of her presenting with Sian with Bill on Location. So the picture above proves she did it more than once. Maybe I'm wrong........

Although as someone pointed out she's employed by the Met Office - and of course the fact she's based in London - I wonder if she was/is considered as a replacement.

Someone in the GMB thread the other day suggested Laura Tobin "has a go" at presenting.

I'm not convinced that broadcast meteorologists would really have such a huge desire to give up their role for a purely presenting one. When asked weather questions off the cuff, I've seen both Laura and Carol give really enthusiastic answers - it's clear they enjoy weather forecasting and are passionate about their current jobs.

With regional news it isn't uncommon to see the weather forecasters also doing the presenting sometimes- for example at ITV London Robin McCallum presented sometimes, so too does Martin Stew. On BBC look north Keeley Donovan. And I think Wendy Hurrell at BBC London has presented a few times

And Shefali at Midlands Today of course. Many of these are journalists turned weather presenters rather than career meteorologists.

Wendy hasn't presented on BBC London, but also doubles up as the second arts reporter and reports for Inside Out. Sara Thornton on the other hand has presented BBC London news bulletins.
