Susanna Reid 'to be replaced by Louise Minchin on BBC Breakfast'

Louise Minchin is reportedly being considered as Susanna Reid's replacement on BBC Breakfast.

The stand-in presenter on the BBC One morning programme is said to be in line to take over from Reid full-time, according to the Sunday People.

Minchin is currently sitting in for Reid, who recently signed up to host ITV's Good Morning Britain later this year.

She will join current co-host Bill Turnbull, if she officially signs up as a regular presenter.

Louise Minchin lives in Chester, near to the studios at the BBC's MediaCity in Salford. Reid previously made a 250-mile round trip everyday from her home in London.

Countdown presenter Rachel Riley has also been rumoured as Reid's possible replacement.

Susanna Reid recently said that she is "very excited" about her new role on Good Morning Britain.

She will be joined on the show by former GMTV host Ben Shephard, Sky Sunrise's Charlotte Hawkins and Sky Sports presenter Sean Fletcher.

Should someone tell them that Louise is already a regular presenter?

Appalling journalism.

Yep - a number of press sources are writing as if Louise has never presented the show before, rather than already being a permanent member of the line-up.

Some of the reports also seem to be unaware that prior to presenting Breakfast, Louise was a regular News 24 presenter (from launch or just after), and before this a production journalist (on programmes like Radio 4's Today I believe).

Reading some of the articles it sounds like they've found a mum-of-two unknown who lives round the corner...

Louise Minchin xertainly makes sense. They promoted from within the last time (when Susanna replaced Sian) and the BBC can't be seen splashing out on new presenters in these austere times.

I've always thought the Rachel Riley thing was complete nonsense. As much as I'd like to gaze at her radiant beauty every morning on the Breakfast sofa, she's got no journalistic experience - and that is very much de rigueur at the Beeb these days.

Ever since Natasha Kaplinsky left they've promoted the weekend presenter. Natasha > Sian > Susanna and now Louise. The same happened when Dermot Murnaghan left, Bill Turnbull was the weekend presenter then.

I definitely hope Louise gets the job. Louise has been with the BBC for a long time and is the ideal candidate especially as she has moved up to Chester to stay with the Corporation, now its the BBC's turn to show its commitment to her.

I think there's a real logic in the path Breakfast have taken. Arguably, the least successful presenters were those parachuted in (Natasha and Dermot). The fact Breakfast is a seven day operation has helped breed good presenters by using the weekends to try out presenters when the usual weekend presenter covers weekdays. Having said that, I hope they use this opportunity to sort out the rota a bit and somebody does 4 days and somebody else three. I like Naga and would like her to become the second stream presenter on a permanent basis.

Also I've always thought Louise and Bill had better chemistry than Susanna and Bill, so this could be a good thing

They're unlikely to change the pattern as Bill wanted to do only three days.

I quite like having Charlie on Thursday-Saturday!!

I saw Dan Pallett from Midlands Today doing the sport on the programme this morning.
Perhaps they couldn't find anyone else from BBC Sport.

Dan has presented on BBC sport before, not unusual.
