Ah, that's interesting. I never watched a UK Today bulletin on a Bank Holiday (I always watched my local programme), so I didn't know they changed the backdrop to the National one. Not that difficult to do, I assume, as UK Today used to come from old N6's second "set" - essentially a small desk in front of a CSO screen.

I remember them doing that, even for about 2 or 3 weeks when we had 'BBC Breakfast 24', inbetween the end of Breakfast News and the start of Breakfast, the main bulletin had to come from News 24's studio, so UK Today had to decamp to the set mentioned in the above post.

Though saying that I still have on VHS a Breakfast opt-out from BBC2 over Christmas 2001 when there was no UK Today, instead they showed BBC LDN, then within a few weeks UK Today had ended.

I like the sofa in the set where 'Fact File' normally comes from.

They had it there one day during the Christams period - don't know why they can't do this at weekends.

ISTR that the regions don't normally have slots on Bank Holidays during Breakfast. However, that may have changed.

Back here in BBC World land, we now have Mishal Hussain back behind the newsdesk presenting regularly. So, I guess that her replacement on BREAKFAST, Susannah Reid, will become a more frequent fixture on the sofa on Fridays/weekends, etc, and as a fill-in for Sian Williams.

From what I can remember of recent years, Breakfast has included regional news on Bank Holidays while they've been coming from News 24. At least they have from 2001-ish onwards.

Indeed. They will include regional news on Good Friday and Easter Monday. They have done ever since the Breakfast brand started in 2000. When Breakfast came from the previous News 24 studio and UK Today still existed. UK Today would use the backdrop from the then main national news backdrop (the real news centre) so to not confuse viewers that presenters could jump in and out of seats in half a second.

I believe they still use the little CSO set for the news interactive updates although i may be wrong. Did they remove it when the set changed?

No, they removed it. There's still a CSO screen in N6 opposite the main set - it's used for the daytime summaries on BBC1.

IIRC, News Interactive comes from close to News 24 in the News Centre.

Actually closer to N6 than News 24. But it's a little studio that's used for the interactive bulletins (and in the old days some of the UK Today bulletins), it's also used by other programmes to record interviews with guests or to do GFXs with a presenter in front of them, also it can often be used by the 1830 regional news programmes/Newsnight Scotland for London guests that are in TVC. It's a very small studio.

I've always thought they should do that - shame they joined the original two small round coffee tables in the usual Breakfast set together, they could have used one of them in this set as well as the sofas. It does look good though. I wonder if this was the reason for the new window added to this section of the set? I do hope they continue doing this for weekend Breakfast.

Although I suppose this could just have been because it was the usual Breakfast team producing this morning's programme, rather than the weekend team?

Why don't they just present Breakfast in News 24's set all the time, the sofa in the News 24 set looked much better IMHO, the graphics and clock will be consistant as well.

Well in the 'Breakfast' thread an insider said that they will...but in 12 months time.

Any caps of Breakfast in N24 studio with the sofa???

I thought it was much better having the sofa brought in. I think it's appropiate for the entertainment as it isn't really serious news.
Did anyone else notice the tower breaking down at 7.02? I seem to recall we had nothing until 7.17 where the clock began to work.
Disappointing that there was no end music. I think it was good that we had the regional news then returned to the studio before the weather but I'd have thought that they would have put some end titles in. Then again they always seem to miss them off.

i notice on weekend breakfast 24 after 8.30 am they seem to go to two little sofas away from the big round tables. Much more cosier - this should be how the weekday breakfast is setted (is there such a word??)
I think the breakfast set on bbc1 is absolutely terrible those awful high rigid setees and lowdown coffee tables just make me feel sorry for the presenters. The females esp tend to fidget all thru the programme.

BTW what's bbc world and when's it on? I assume it's on N24 at some point but...i've never heard of it.

BBC World is a news and current affairs channel which broadcasts outside the UK. Similar to News 24, but for a global audience. There's a news bulletin from BBC World on News 24 at 09.30 every weekday.

Aren't the sofas used on Bank Holidays in the larger side area of the N24 set just the same as the usual one that's split apart?
In fact just this morning I was thinking perhaps it would look better if they just sat on the middle section of the sofa, and get rid of the other two sections on the side, but then there would be no room for guests to sit. However they could bring the plasma screen into the area where one of the sofa sections was instead.
