I don't think they got the sofa in the end, as it's not on ebay.

Interesting thought about Sian's future, with the very high likelyhood that Martha Kearney is moving from 'The World at One' to Channel Four, this leaves a hole to fill on Radio Four

this article ….

Speculates that Sarah Montague from 'Today' might fill the 'TWaO' role leaving a vacancy on 'Today'

Sian if she is intent on not moving to Salford, could fit in well on that programme.

Interesting. At one point the suggestion was that Channel Four were trying to work out a deal that would let Martha stay on WatO.

Bill Turnbull told us that they didn't take the sofa on the programme itself.

Maybe they won't get it until Breakfast moves to Salford...

(I don't think that they took anything with them at the time they invaded - they were presumably just whizzing around London with a PSC crew, with arrangements made to collect their items at a later date)

They had a truck with them, Ant & Dec said on one of there tv/radio visits, but that could of just been talk. I really don't think they got or will get the Breakfast sofa, too late now. Maybe it could be chucked in next year.

Do we have a pretty accurate date for Breakfast moving yet, or is it still just '2012'?

There was something I read the other day that said March 2012 for Breakfast moving to Salford. I'll see if I can find the article...

EDIT: found it:

ITV’s decision to leave its Quay Street site and move to MediaCity gave the project a huge boost. So did the BBC’s decision to move Breakfast to Salford. The morning news show will arrive next March.

Thank you! Also interesting to note Noggin's mention in the Presenter thread that, as he understands it, Breakfast will be coming from the same studio seven days a week. Sounds like a good idea in presentation terms, but presumably this will add a bit to costs? Not that transferring the team to London two days a week would be cheaper, but presumably the current set up with TC7 & N6 is cheaper?.

When Breakfast does move to Salford I hope they take a look at what NBC Today (and GMA & TES) do. Being based in New York in a large country, they're forced to do lots of down-the-line interviews and actually pull it off very well. The bigger issues Breakfast will have are going to be the post-08:30 interviews, but I'm sure they'll still be able to get enough guests on the sofa each morning.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if Breakfast shared a studio with North West Tonight (with the morning bulletins coming from a CSO studio or the newsroom) which would save money. It would also mean that NWT would get a decent sized studio like it has now in Manchester and not be shoved in a corner which I believe the original plan was. Of course this is all speculation.

Or it could mean Breakfast is shoved in a small studio. If you think about it, at the moment they only use enough studio space for the sofa, if we assume business and weather will remain in London.

Or a TC7 sized studio with Breakfast's set at one end and and NWT's at the other?

I don't necessarily think there's a problem with both operations being in the same studio, it would be just like when Moira did the news from a desk in the main studio.

It could either be a Nationwide scenario, where the rest of the country opts out for their regional bit while the studio continues with the North West's bit, or as there are likely to be two galleries they could treat the smaller presentation type gallery as a sub-mixer for the regional bits much like TC7 cuts up BBC London.

There's something interesting. If a region fails to opt in the regional news segments of BBC Breakfast after the move to Salford would they receive BBC NWT or still BBC London? Would BBC London be required to opt out (can they?) or would BBC London's feed have to be fed up to Salford?
