I'm no art teacher, but surely to Jeebus that word you're all struggling to find is "soft" not "warm".

It doesn't look cold in any way. The colour palette has red and orange in it, and barely a hint of anything at the cooler end of the spectrum.

I think the reason people are saying it feels cold is the contrast between the stark red and the metallic grey of much of the rest of the set. It comes across a bit severe. They need some more orange and yellow tones like before to ease the transition between the two.

I don't know why people are surprised the set hasn't changed much - at the end of the day there's only so much they could have done, as the basic set was never going to change. Short of adding some pillars like on Andrew Marr's show, it's always going to be a rectangular set with barco screens and two grey rostrums.

I like the set, just hate they keep using a fake newsroom. Some nice graphics would look so much nicer, or even a real view.

Sport and E24 looks so much nicer because there is graphics.

The studio looks uninviting and cold because there's hardly any texture to it. The surfaces are all hard, flat and smooth with sharp edges and corners. Frankly I think all the BBC News studios resemble a Soviet war bunker since the revamp last year.

Oh I see.

So "warm" is the opposite of "hard".

Are there I was thinking it was "soft", like a schmuck.

'Hard' as an adjective can mean cold and forbidding. So I suppose 'warm' in the sense of being friendly and pleasant, would be the opposite of that.

Yes, well, I'll just jot that down in my invisible notebook.

Does anyone else here think that The One Show's set would make a better Breakfast set then TC7?

Why don't they put some white carpet down or something to cover up that nasty painted grey baking tray with black lines all over it? Would make it look a bit warmer.

From that cap I think it may be the red that's the problem - it's just a bit harsh. Even keeping that newsroom backdrop but changing the red for something less harsh, like the previous orange, would soften it up a bit and probably make quite a difference.

does anyone think the lighting is a little dark?
