That's not to say it has
never
happened on the station: I think the ill-fated Mark and Lard Breakfast show came from Manchester didn't it?
Yes, it did. I remember Radcliffe saying that people used to come up and congratulate him for staying in Manchester and not going to London, but he said he didn't see why it was so big a deal as it happened to be where he lived and nobody would have congratulated him if it had been the other way round.
At the same time, Stuart Maconie used to do a Sunday night show from Birmingham and the Rock Show came from Glasgow.
There was talk ages ago of Colin and Edith coming from Manchester wasn't there and then Colin moved to evenings. It is shocking that Radio 1 is so London centric. It would be nice to see something national come from each of the nations.
I don't suppose anyone managed to capture Chris Hollins at just after 6.30 this morning, accidentally spitting a piece of pinapple at Kate which had dislodged from his teeth? Made me laugh quite a bit - especially as you saw it fly from his mouth. It seemed to cause a few giggles in the studio too.
She's great as well. I hope that with Working Lunch having ended, she gets used a lot more around the BBC. A talented, friendly and thoroughly knowledgeable journalist.
Just wondering, I know the announcement's been made, but could this be flag waving and be a move that'd be easy to cancel 'to show restraint in difficult times'?
I very much hope that it is DVB Cornwall.
Because of the move to Media City in Salford, I no longer regard the BBC as being a good source of news.
Sky News and Russia Today are now my favoured choices for TV news.
The BBC moved the One Show to London in order to make it easier for it to get big name guests.
ITV moved This Morning to London because big name guests found it hard to come to the Albert Dock.
If putting Breakfast News in Salford is such a good idea then why not put the One Show there as well.
Lots of media coverage this morning over who may quit the show when it moves North.
Chris Hollins has hinted he will not be moving and Louise Minchin won't renew her contract with Breakfast. There are rumours that Bill will retire early and that Sian and Susanna are likely to quit.
Media Guardian reports that there are calls for Mark Thompson to intervene and reverse the decision. I don't see how this move can happen to be fair.

I fail to understand that. News happens everywhere and location has nothing to do with being a good source of news (well it helps if you are where the news is occurring of course). Breakfast might turn into an awful programme if it moves to Salford but it would still be able to provide the same news as it does now.

Be interested to know your reasoning for such a bizarre statement... The main BBC Multimedia Newsroom and the BBC Newsgathering operation isn't moving to Salford - just the production team. With the advances made in computer-based network production tools it no longer matters where you are physically to access content. Journalists in Salford and journalists in London will work together just as if they were in two rooms next to each other - though they won't bump into each other in the tea bar... Video on servers in London will be just as accessible to those in Salford as those in London, and ENPS (in use since 1997 at the BBC) allows journalists in Washington, Moscow, Johannesburg and - yes - Salford - to work together...

I hope you're joking about Russia Today... They lost any credibility during the Russia / Georgia stuff in 2008.

Nothing to do with the fact that the main presenter lived in Chiswick and his then wife worked for FiveLive at TVC then...
Remember that The One Show wasn't originally a celebrity-guest based show - it evolved into that months after it launched in London.

Because The One Show team is relatively small - it commissions films from BBC Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast, Manchester and Bristol as well as many independents across the UK (Leeds, Southampton etc.) and only makes a small number of films in London (it doesn't commission any films from London Factual) An average episode of The One Show will contain 4 films - only one of which is made in London (and it is usually the shortest)
Reports suggest that Breakfast is having to move to get the BBC numbers up past the 1500 they promised a local development agency, in response for additional funding. Since the original plans for relocating FiveLive, Sport and Childrens' BBC were drawn up, efficiency savings have meant that the number of staff employed in these departments have dropped - and so more people need to move to Salford to hit the target the BBC promised. The One Show isn't big enough to meet this target, Breakfast is.

Maybe they'll just have to employ people from the north, rather than shifting people up from London...
It's the lack of accessibilty to politicians live in the studio that worries me, if an interview is done 'down the line' the lack of full body awareness to the interviewer is lost so any uncomfortable fidgeting is masked. In addition the number of available entertainment and sporting live in studio guests will inevitably drop.
As for coffeebar interaction that to me in a news organisation is important too.
