I think Sian will leave and join a BBC One bulletin but Bill, Charlie and Susanna will move to Salford.

I bet you too they'll end up moving Breakfast, 5 Live and BBC Sport in early 2012 and then be having to make arrangements to bring them all back down for the Olympics.
That again defeats the purpose of moving if they end up having to keep a studio running in London too - even if it's just a small CSO studio.
As for Bill and Sian - well by 2012 they'll have done a lengthy stint on Breakfast (are they already it's longest serving hosts?) so may be moving on regardless.
I read on one of the newspaper websites it was 2012. Staff have apparently six months to decide. Bill Turnbull is apparently moving

They could go back to the old format, whereby the two sofa-sitters are based in Manchester, whilst the newscaster, sportscaster and weather presenter could all be at the London newsroom. (Like it was in the days of Moira. Whilst I know Moira was actually seated at a podium just a few feet away from Sophie and Jeremy in those days, the use of split screens gave the impression to the viewer that she was far, far, far away in a distant land.........)

The issue of cost could be avoided if the studio used was BBC London. Am I correct in thinking the plan for BBC News in Broadcasting House is to bring National, World and London across all platforms together.
Also will be interesting to see if BBC Breakfast ends up sharing a studio with BBC North West.
In terms of studio space at Broadcasting House the space required seems to be falling. If you think of what is in TC7 - we have lost Breakfast and Working Lunch. That only leaves Newsnight and BBC News at 6 for five days a week plus The Andrew Marr Show and The Politics Show on Sundays plus a few small ancillary programmes which could all probably be accommodated in a much smaller studio. Could these and the Westminster studio be accommodated in one?

Ben, the largest majority of guests who appear on the show - be they actors or authors or politicians - are based in London. How many guests do they have on the show who live in Manchester or Scotland?
There's something for you to do - find that out. (The answer is not many).
Wishing it were otherwise, while nice, is futile. And I say that as someone who lives in Edinburgh.
I agree with Gavin on this one.
As much as I want to see media work outside London, this is just bonkers.
I used to work 30 miles north of London and getting voice over artists to us was a nightmare. if they were capital based that's where they wanted to stay.
The Beeb have all there news currently in one complex and now are breaking it up.
R5L R4 Today Breakfast and News channel all share the same guests, this is ill thought out from the logistics of guests, staff and more importantly to the programmes look to the viewer.
Another more obvious workaround is to use the news channel - why even have a seperate Breakfast News? Then keep it in London for TV as R5L in Salford only needs audio feeds of its guests.
What about guests from Manchester and Scotland who travel to London to go on the programme, why not widen the scope so people across the UK can have the opportunity to appear?
As an ITV supporter over the BBC, I wish to applaud BBC on this one and I look forward to seeing the programme from an studio just a few yards from where I work.
London may be the Capital and I love London, but let's think outside the bubble and move around the UK.

That's a good point and would make more sense than Breakfast having a studio to itself.
With Working Lunch gone certainly would make sense to have a dedicated BBC1 studio again, which if in the current style could accommodate Andrew Marr and The Politics Show on Sundays. That still leaves Newsnight though. What's happening with BBC London News - will that move to Broadcasting House?

That answers that then. Unless the BBC moves the London News to Edinburgh or something.

Could be a good cost cutting measure, but either provision would need to be made for morning regional news in the Breakfast studio, or a CSO or other similar setup would be needed
Yes please. Then the news channel can cover breaking news far easier at 1 and 10pm, and the weekend news doesn't have disrupt the news channel at 20 past the hour or whenever it is scheduled
Currently Newsnight and The Record on BBC Parliament (which uses Millbank) clash but if The Record was maybe moved to a newsroom or CSO setup then maybe Newsnight and the Sunday political shows could go to Millbank. But the studio there might need some work doing to it!
Or could Newsnight even share with BBC London - would need a CSO type set up for BBC London's late bulletin however

I'm fairly sure The Record uses CSO with a background of the Millbank set apart from The Record Review which actually uses the studio.

Whilst they're in Television Centre I doubt this would happen. The 1 could theoretically move to TC7 now (which is a bulletin which often gets in the way of breaking news - but am I right in thinking there have been cases that N9 or when Working Lunch wasn't on TC7 were used for the News Channel whilst N6 took the 1?). The 10 still can't move because of Newsnight however, but there's not often much going on at that time.
Weekend bulletins? I can't see the BBC staffing TC7 all day Saturday and Sunday just for that...

The problem with using Millbank or BBC London (assuming the latter's current set-up is permanent) are the studios don't look very big, certainly not compared to TC7. When you consider how much Newsnight has grown since the Barcos were installed, with much more flexibility to have big debates with an audience, moving into a smaller set would surely be a step backwards?

What others? Where? I have never heard this - and the move was widely discussed on this forum at the time.
You just made that up.
Actually that has often been cited as the real reason for the move and I've read that many times - here's an example -
Given that moving the show to London was Granada's only hope of keeping Richard and Judy on it, as after eight years they were hungry for change, leaving Liverpool seems a small price to pay

was as much to do with Richard and Judy's desire to base themselves there, as it was for getting more guests.
