Not sure about the studio. Modern, yes. Friendly, no.

In what way "unfriendly"?

As someone who hates virtually every aspect of the "new look" BBC News had last April, unsurprisingly I hate virtually every aspect of this.

The titles start promising, but then revert to the generic mess which just, well basically, looks ****! The studio is sterile and hideous while the black clock is the sort of thing that leaves you wondering who's died. Not appropriate at all for a Breakfast programme.

Don't worry - the black clock will be changing

Like the titles and music, and was fine with the black clock too, though I notice newsmonkey says it will change. I like the principle of bringing the backdrop closer to the rest of BBC News output, but I do think it was slightly cold - it might grow on me though.

All in all, not a disaster and some elements look great (that includes the clock!). But, dare I say, GMTV is now looking better, or at least friendlier, than its nemesis?

I think set-wise GMTV has always looked friendlier... but then it's their remit to be cosy and chummy. Breakfast has always had a newsier edge, and so it's no surprise the set reflects that.

As for the titles, surely nothing could be worse than GMTV's current blurry mess which always looks to me like a simulation of cataract impaired vision.

It seems to have lost the warmth and cosiness which the orange backdrop gave it. Whilst I'm not a huge fan of GMTV's new look either (I know, I'm a miserable git) their set oozes the above qualities and that, to me anyway, equals friendliness.

Admittedly it's a difficult challenge to replicate this cosiness in a studio as large as TC7 but the previous look seemed to manage it a tad better than the new look. It's not that I particularly dislike the new set but considering some viewers branded the clouds background as 'cold and sterile' it is slightly surprising that they have opted for this colour scheme, regardless of its connection with BBC News.

On the whole, the new look gets the thumbs up from me but it does need some tidying up around the edges.

What is the closing of the programme like?

However Breakfast in some ways has often tried to disguise the fact it's a news programme and actually distinguish itself from the rest of BBC News. As a "Breakfast" programme, they can get the casual viewer in. As a three-hour "news" programme, they'll exclude alot of the target audience.

Hmmmmmm...............not sure at all, actually. But it always takes time to grow on one.

The above Youtube link led me to this. LOL. Bring it back. And is that Blair being interviewed in the background? Love Jeremy shaking his head at the end of the piece. LOL.

It's not too bad–the new mix of the theme is very good, and I love the new titles, but the graphics are just far too dark for early morning, especially the clock.

The backdrop isn't very good either–it's too grey and drab, and I think the guests' backdrop is much better. I was never a fan of the grey newsroom backdrop, but using it on Breakfast just feels very, very out of place. The astons are also very awkward.

One thing worth remembering is that this visual refresh will probably only last a year and a half (or so), until BBC News moves to it's new home at Broadcasting House.

This raises questions, such as...

Will they keep the Barco's when they move?
Will the new facilities be HDTV capable?
Will the "Breakfast" production staff consider doing the show in front of a window, not unlike the Yank breakfast-time programmes?

I'm not even sure the BBC brass has the answers to questions such as these yet.
