I think he has more authority than Chris, so it makes sense for him to do the newsy part and then for Chris to do the fluffy part, rather than have Chris to the whole lot.

I'm quite liking Simon presenting as well. Rewind many years - you often saw the Business presenter co-anchor Breakfast News - Fiona Foster, Sara Coburn and Paul Burden.

I thought Simon was better this morning. It appears that this line up may be a feature of Breakfast for the next 4 weeks?

I well remember the days when Fiona Foster, Sara Coburn and Paul Burden presented and they all did it very well. Sara Coburn, in particular, doubled up as a co-anchor for Breakfast News (c. 1994-1997) - so much so that she almost seemed to do more shifts than Sally Magnusson or Juliet Morris at times during that era.

IIRC Tanya Sillem, Gwyn Jones, Olenka Frenkiel, Beatrice Hollyer, and of course more latterly, Tanya Beckett, all presented Business Breakfast and then progressed to Breakfast News, so there is a long tradition of this.

Simon has confirmed on his twitter he is on for two more weeks after this week.

Ah, Tanya Beckett...she was fab when she filled in on Breakfast News!

Don't forget Naga Munchetty, who worked on Bloomberg TV, then Working Lunch before appearing on Breakfast.

Why's Carol doing weather in studio still?

I thought that was permanent now - to cut costs?

I noticed the other day Carol doing a news channel forecast just before 0900 I think it was. Have the weather shifts been changed as I don''t think Carol did these forecasts previously. Presumably all part of the cost savings.

Yea, I think a small change in the weather shifts. As far as I know there is no longer a summary at the end of Breakfast, so Carol's last forecast from TC7 is 8:45 and I think she now presents on the NC from 8:57 up to 10:27/10:57 (?) reducing the need for an extra presenter first thing.

Alll change this morning! Charlie presenting and Carol on location!

It's a shame Breakfast can't make as good a use of TC7 as Newsnight does. Nice new sofa seen last night, and slightly modified desk. I'd really like to see Breakfast use both the desk, after years of not doing so, and the same sofa as Newsnight.

Make more of an effort, BBC Breakfast!

Slightly different graphics today?! Im watching on BBC One London - its got the BBC News Channel logo and clock....and the "BBC Breakfast" graphic isn't coming up underneath it....is this a recent change?

There was no clock at all until 7.30, with Sian and Simon saying that the "Clock was broken" and giving very regular timechecks. It would appear that the News24 clock/dog solution is the best they can manage for the time being.

Ridiculous - they probably feel obliged to give the timechecks incase anyone ends up being late for work or something, because of course they won't have any actual clocks in the house!
